Beer tax in CA....it's only just begun Iowa

Higher state tax on beer? - San Jose Mercury News

"The people who use alcohol should pay for part of the cost to society, just like we've accepted that concept with tobacco," Beall said.

We'll be hearing that soon from our statehouse.

"The Constituiton...is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please."- - -Thomas Jefferson, Sept. 6, 1819.

That will take power away from those who base their lives on control. It will never happen.

I think the best quote I have seen goes like this, "Work harder, millions on welfare depend on you."

Yeah, its fun giving the government large sums of my cash, and then seeing it wasted.

Brian Hos, your saying that your are opposed to the flat tax? I think this would teach taxpayers how to manage there money and not have the government bail them out.

OHH GOD NO!!! I am not opposed at all. As a happy member of the elite group that got hit with the AMT, I am all for tax reform.

I am just saying that this is the group that is not fiscally responsible enough to ban earmarks, so there is no way they are giving control of the tax code up.

FairTax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not saying there isn't negatives to a flat tax, but we really need a new system..more and more people cheat on there taxes, get away with it, and honest people get stuck footing the bill (working harder). Why would any kid or person on that matter want to work hard in this country when they know that they can get what they want for free from the government? We need a change.

Re: Beer tax in CA....it's only just begun Iowa

I have talked to individuals who I would call upper class ($250-$500k a year), that are getting HAMMERED by the government. They pay more than half of there income to taxes, and that's not even including all the charities, deadbeat family members, etc, etc that beg/guilt for some of there hard earned money. They have lost the will to work harder because they don't see an incentive for it.

Re: Beer tax in CA....it's only just begun Iowa

There is someone I know. He works 'full-time' at a grocery store. He makes a cool $20K/ year. He has two kids from two different women. He claims them both on his taxes. He got $7K back after filing his tax return!!!! Are you kidding me? Earned Income credits, child tax credits. On top of all this, we the taxpayers, are paying for his daycare for his children.

He bought a big screen TV with his 'refund' as well as an X-Box 360 and several DVD's. He also had an opportunity for another job that paid about $6k more/ year. He turned it down because we would not be paying for his daycare anymore. There is a problem with entitlements, it keeps people from moving up.

Assemblyman Jim Beall is an idiot. No chance this passes. And I hope he's looking for a new job because he will not get re-elected. 1,500 percent increase, get real. I know we have a huge budget deficit but give me a frickin break.
