Morels

Well it's almost that time of year. But with the weather that we've had so far this year, how will the crop of morels fare this year?

Any predictions?

My favorite meal of the year. Morels and crappie filets make a great feast.

Morels are delicious. Lots of them grow around my parent's farm.

I like to just bread them like fish and fry them in butter. They are also fantastic in lasagna.

Definitely! We used to throw a big feed of mushrooms and crappie every year when I was back in Iowa. Man, I miss that stuff.

We've got morels here but no way in hell am I wandering around in the timber with copperheads. Almost stepped on one in my driveway one night (within 6 inches wearing shorts and flip flops). He tossed out a warning strike but never connected thankfully.

I saw some in my local Whole Foods Market recently and I could not believe how expensive they were.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Can morels hunting be a recruiting tool?

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Re: Morels

Anyone been out and having luck? I unsuccessfully went out later last week and after the cold weekend weather I think it will still be a few more days until they start popping.

ISU Cyclone fan, University of Illinios, Iowa City campus student, and a huge DB for making this my sig-line.
