DSL or Cable?

What's everyone got around here? I am moving into a new house and haven't made up my mind to what I want. I already know that I am going Dish, but would like some supporting reviews on DSL and Cable Internet. I would go DSL if Qwest offered 5Mbps in my neighborhood, but the 1.5Mbps is the only thing they can offer. Does anyone know where the CO's are located in West Des Moines?
I would appreciate it very much.

Re: DSL or Cable?

I am in the same predic. here in Sioux City. I am very much thinking the 1.5mbps DSL is a better option than the 3mb cableone I currently have. Cableone blows.

Cable will almost always be faster, all other considerations aside I'd go with that.

Re: DSL or Cable?

I have had both, but waited till Qwest got to 7mb. I should have switched sooner as 1.5 is plenty fast for my use.

IMO: go with Qwest.

DSL is guaranteed bandwidth where cable's BW takes hit when school is out and later on in the evening with everyone sharing the pipe.

Just make sure and keep dish versus cable out of the conversation:
I personally use and like Cable Internet.

Re: DSL or Cable?

Cable hands down. The only ISP in my town is Iowa Telecom, who does not offer anything above 1.5mbps DSL and I HATE it. I lag terribly when playing XBOX Live or any computer games.

While I'm not a big fan at all of Mediacom, I would buy from them in a second if it were an option.

I'll admit, I do miss my cable internet sometimes. Page loads, especially those with a lot of images - do take longer on DSL.

Re: DSL or Cable?

It all depends on what you use your connection for.

I used to have 1.5/1.5 DSL and I'd trade my current 8mbit/512k for it in a heartbeat.

Honestly, for just web browsing, there is no appreciable difference. For downloading movies and whatnot, sometimes cable might be a bit better, but it can be just as slow as DSL sometimes.

Re: DSL or Cable?

I've got Qwest dsl at 1.5 down and perfectly happy with it as i'm not a gaming geek, nor do I do alot of big downloads. 1.5 down is plenty fast for audio & video streaming.

I have used both and liked both. If you are just surfing and using it for e-mail I would let the cost make the selection.

Re: DSL or Cable?

Isnt it funny what we deam as slow these days. I remember wanting to punch through the screen when AOL was slow on my 14.4 modem. Before that, I didnt care, because there wasnt as much to do at the time.

Speed test on Mediacom:

To clarify for all, I use XBox Live on a usual basis. Hopefully that helps you understand my needs for speed.

Re: DSL or Cable?

I had cable for over 6 years and was happy with it but it was costing me $60/month. I swtched to DSL about a year ago and can't tell the difference unless I'm doing really heavy DL'ing like bit torrent type stuff(legal stuff) or long video's will take longer. I also have a connection to my ps3, Directv DVR, etc and never have aproblem with lag or speed. I tihnk I'm now paying $25 month for 1.5. The $400/year I'm saving is well worth it.

I say we play a game against our second team players. We would have a closer game! I can't wait to see us shove it down ISU's throats! They are going to need some syrup for all the pancakes we will be getting.---lukestylez (Hawkeye Fan)
