I'm on a quest...
I am on a quest... for Golden Questions, for which I will create Golden Answers...
I'm not kidding. Seriously... whatever happened to good old fashioned Security Questions? Guess that wasn't flashy enough... so now they're Golden Questions/answers Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

I spent a good week back in March trying to fill out this nice long form that details the last 10 years of my life, and provides contacts to verify the information provided. I show up for work on Monday and they tell me there is a new system, and I have to go do this on-line now...
Atleast I should already have all the information and just need to type it in but still...
Right now the IT monster is keeping me from achieving my quest.
And Superfan, next Friday is my day off... I'm one of the few sad SOB's around this place right now... which is why I was assigned next week off. Probally a few more people off today though as today is the opening of the Tiki bar. Google "Tiki Bar" and "Solomon's Island, MD" and see what kind of pictures of the crowd you find...

Re: I'm on a quest...

I know I shouldn't, but it's entertaining sometimes to see someone else "share my pain..."
I "get" to swipe my CAC three times just to get to my office, and twice to get down to the level that has bathrooms.
Welcome to the "club".
One note: If you have something in your past that is questionable, you should always list it. You'd be surprised how many things are "okay", but if you omit or misrepresent even something relatively minor, you'll be gone so fast your head will spin.

Re: I'm on a quest...
At least they're finally making those govy forms electronic. Sucks when you had to fill those books out again and again. "Don't you keep those things in a database?" "uhhhhhh"
Make sure you keep a copy or print it out in case you get stuck doing it again.

You sound just like my mentor... I get a call today "Chris, it's Wayne. It's Friday"
"Yup. And it's nice out" ~me
"Yes, it is. And guess where you are? I just like to make others share my pain..." ~Mentor
I only have to swipe my ID badge once to get into my building... once I'm in here I'm doing pretty good, but we mostly just have some labs with a lot of big equipment, sounds like you work a lot with computers...
As for my CAC card, I don't get that for 3 more weeks, voice mail for another 2-3 business days... though atleast I have e-mail now.
Can't sign up for benefits yet though... atleast not online through EBIS, whatever the **** that stands for (I don't remember, I don't care)
Oh by the way Phaedrus, I have a bathroom just one cubicle over, as well as a water fountain, sink, refridgerator and microwave. And I don't have to swipe my CAC card to get to any of them Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

Re: I'm on a quest...
I interned for the DoD and was handcuffed when I didn't have my CaC card on me.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -

My options for using the bathroom including walking down a rickety metal outside staircase, or swiping my card a bajillion times during a day. I've already worn out one card in a year and 8 months.
My "other" office is an old WWII POW barracks for US soldiers held captive by the Germans. But at least it has a nice bathroom and a kitchen three doors down.

Re: I'm on a quest...
Sounds like you have a swell place... I my cubicle is in a recent (<1 year old? 2 tops?) addition to a building... however as I understand it I will somewhere in the next year be relocated elsewhere for a 4 month tour... (by relocated else where I mean one of the other bases in the country), so I'm not sure how comfy I will get here. I think that will probally be the 2nd of my 3 tours though so I've probally got 5 months before that happens... just enough time to get used to where I am before being uprooted

Re: I'm on a quest...
Flag guy, you are in the military? Am I missing something?
-
Re: I'm on a quest...
I am now a civilian employee of the Navy - so no I am not in the military but I now work for it. Or am working on working for it... I've atleast started the slow, never ending trudge through the buracracy that is our government.
I now feel compelled to go watch a particular episode of Futurama...
