I can't agree with that. In this season, instruments actually became a part of the show and a few contestants have shown some serious talent with playing an instrument and singing.

And FTR, none of them are allowed to lip sync. :wink:

It's not him really, it's just that one damn song and it's relationship with Iowa State football.

When I think of him, I first think Sweet Caroline. Then, ISU football and it's horrible timing in playing that song - the losing, the pain.

That's what ISU has done to me, turn a great song writer into a name that gives me the same feeling as fingernails on a chalkboard do.

Maybe even worse than that.

That is probably the biggest problem with the show - the general public has too much impact on it. But, that is the premise of the show.

There clearly is a lot of bias involved. If that were not the case - Jason or Brooke would be at home right now - not Carley. But people get their favorites and stick with 'em no matter what.

I did call it that Brooke wouldn't even be in the bottom 2, because her fans would go out of their way to vote like crazy, knowing she was in jeopardy. The same thing happened with Jason most likely.

Kinda sad, because that's exactly how an excellent talent in Daughtry didn't win that season. But then again, it doesn't seem like he's shedding any tears over it. Could've worked out better for him, in fact.

Funny thing is I've read rumors that he still has signed Diana so he's not going to let someone else take credit if she makes it in country. Yeah, it was pretty obvious that Iglesias winning was purely a chance for Rich to even firther diversify his Mafia. I think he actually has quite a few of them under contract right now...

The instruments are a step in the right direction.

I would bet they lip sync a BUNCH on tour, though.

I understand how people like the show, but if you truly want to see young, talented artists, they are out there. They may not win a beauty contest, but they are musicians. They write their own songs that aren't a rehashing of someone else or written by some vapid "hit factory".

We actually got some cheap tickets to the tour last fall when they were at the fair. I can tell ya without any doubt, there was zero lip syncing going on - at least on that night.

I'm with you on the beauty thing. A few of my favorite Idols happen to be a pair of women that were not the best looking - but man - they could sing.

Couldn't agree more. This is my first season of watching the show and it is frustrating as hell to watch. Jason Castro has no voice. It's just a plain dull voice and he looks high every time he is on tv. Absolutely no personality and should have been off a while ago. I was shocked that him and Brooke were not in the bottom two last night.

Carly was by far and away the best girl singer. It wasn't even close. Problem is she didn't show it the last 3 shows and it ended up killing her. David A can sing one style of song and that is it. He is so show choir-ish it bothers me. He has a great voice, don't get me wrong, but I can't stand him. David Cook should win hands down. It shouldn't be close.

Also did anyone else think that the Aussie guy who got kicked off a couple weeks back would have been awesome if he knew what to do with his hands? He reminded me of Will Ferrell in the beginning of Talledega Nights. His exiting performance was by far his best b/c he just went out and performed and didn't worry about how he looked

Oh yeah, I liked Michael Johns (the Aussie) a lot.

I am "concerned" (if I can call it that) about David A. winning. His fan base is huge - probably bigger than anyone else's on the show (and maybe in Idol history). It won't shock me one bit if he wins, even if David Cook keeps lighting up the stage and David A. falters.

I can agree. Even if Cook doesn't win, he will be a star. He was a little to cocky for me at first but he is by far my favorite now. David A has the 15 year old girls voting for him but I just want him to sing a fast paced song and do it well. Doesn't it seem like most of his good songs are slow?

Yes, he's a ballad type of guy, at least at this early stage in his "career". It does get a little dull at times.

Cook, he can sing anything - clearly. And I liked what he did Tuesday night and did the unexpected - leaving the song as it was written. Either he's a very bright guy and/or he's getting some stellar advice.

David Archuleta is really starting to annoy me more and more every week. Then again, I guess I'm not his target demographic....

I was sad to see Carly go because I enjoyed her voice and thought she was the best female singer.

I'm liking David Cook more and more every week. I think he deserves to win but maybe it'd be better career-wise for him to get second place.

Sorry man but a lot of good singers started out singing other peoples songs. Every band covers a song now and then.

Also these kids do have talent. The show may annoy you and Paula Abdul is a complete idiot but they can sing and this year some of them are playing instruments.

Also they are required to sing other peoples songs on the show but that does not mean that they don't write there own music when they are not on the show.

I'm not talking about covering a song every now and then. I'm talking about being under contract by the labels to perform vapid songs that a factory writes for them. One reason I mildly admire Kelly Clarkson is that she has fought her label on this and won.

As for writing their own songs, I don't know if any of the alumni besides Clarkson do...I would guess that they don't, and if they do, they haven't been very successful at it.

Oh, and if anyone thinks AI is a talent contest and not a popularity contest, they are wrong, IMO.

Does anyone really think these are the most talented musicians in the US??

I think the people on this show are the lowest common denominator......in other words.......popular music in the US.
