Re: Favorite US city you've been to
Note that the people that like Honalulu also like Chicago ... they have a similar feel despite the completely different locations - I don't care for either.
My favs:
->Anywhere on Maui, Hawaii
->Phoenix, Az
->San Antonio, Tx
->Many of the small towns we've passed through for RAGBRAI over the last 8 years, most noteably Eagle Grove, Hiawatha, and everywhere else not named Ida Grove

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
Lots of love for Austin here.
I will also vote for San Francisco. Neat place.
The Riverwalk in San Antonio is cool, but it is swarming with tourists and shady people. I was not impressed with any of San Antonio outside of downtown.
Sandusky, Ohio (Cedar Point, baby).

3. St. Pete, FL (for the beaches) Ok, I am very biased here, growing up on the Atlantic side of Florida but I have never really understood why people like the beaches on the gulf side. I have never really understood peoples' love of Phoenix either... If I go to a beach I want some waves and you don't get that on the gulf side. Pretty much the only thing I have ever liked about St. Pete/clearwater is the scrip clubs... Phoenix is a whole other thing, if you are going to be THAT hot, where is the beach? where is the grass? No thanks...

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
difference between you and me...I'll take the no waves plus I like the white sand. I've been to beaches on the Atlantic and the Pacific and it reminds of of Okoboji beaches so, sorry, not that impressed.
As for Phoenix, I went in early May (travelled down to Nogales for Cinco De Mayo actually) when it's not that hot. Had a great time! I don't remember saying I'd want to live there though.

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
1) Chicago (stay in the Lincoln Park area, near Wrigley)
2) Minneapolis (good zoo, great Science museum, some pretty good food)
3) Orlando (best time I've ever had with my son)

3. St. Pete, FL (for the beaches) Question for you and anyone else who mentioned Phoenix---I'm moving down there in a couple weeks to work at a summer camp in the mountains (1/2 way between Phoenix and Flagstaff) for the summer. I will have some free days to head into town and am looking for suggestions.
Let me know...TIA

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
I'd prefer mountains over the beach. I can't tan, just burn and I hate having sand everywhere on me.

I don't want to give the wrong impression, it's a good beach and I had a great time (with the exception of the skater dude wearing nothing but an elephant trunk and ears ). I just prefer the white sand beaches of the gulf coast.

Santa Cruz, CA
Ames, IA (You don't know what you've got until it's gone...or in my case, you move 24 hours away)

Let me know...TIA It depends a lot on what you like to do I guess. If you're into golf they have a ton of courses (275 I think in that region). If you're into baseball, you could check out Chase Park. If you're into hiking they have numerous trails (I actually hiked Camelback Mountain while I was there). I had the opportunity to visit Alice Cooper's bar one night. And for just kicking back, sipping a cold one on the balcony being cooled by water misters, Hooter's (Tempe I believe) was a great place next to ASU's stadium (some of the hottest Hooter girls I've seen ever).
