Let me know...TIA
I lived in Phoenix for 3 years. In the summer-time, you'll want to stay north (Flagstaff) rather than heading south.
Hit Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, etc.

Let me know...TIA If you have some time to drive around, there's Old Tucson - tons of old Westerns have been filmed there, and it's kind of cool. There are the cliff dwellings at the Tonto National Monument, which are very cool if you're up for a hike. The Biodome is kind of interesting, and there's always the Grand Canyon.

Washington, D.C.
Austin, TX
Boston, MA
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
Salt Lake City, UT (less than an hour from 7 awesome ski resorts)
San Francisco, CA
Anywhere near a ski resort in New England
I LOVE big cities. I was raised in the country most of my life but just love the city. This doesn't bode well with having a love of snowboarding in the "less travelled" resorts though.

I spend about six hours a week with my toes in the sands of Mission Beach and not once have I thought it reminded me of Okoboji. Okoboji is great fun, I have many fond memories of the place, but to compare it's cobblestone beaches to the deep soft sand of Mission isn't accurate.
I've been to a lot of beaches in my time and SoCal's beaches don't take a back seat to any of them. I haven't been to the Gulf coast of Florida (I agree with the other poster, if there aren't waves what's the point?) so maybe I have something to look forward to. We have some relatives that snowbird on the Gulf, guess I'll have to go visit sometime.

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
going gulfing for a week this saturday. can't wait-4th year for me and the old lady. caught a shark, saved a baby manatee, pretty cool stuff going on right on the beach. plus, it's all grey-hairs and there's not much to do but relax, get drunk, and eat really good seafood.

The thread is about favorite US cities. As for Mission Beach, yes, I'll admit it's in no way comparable to Okoboji (which I also have great memories of). We had a great time at Mission Beach but I just prefer the Gulf coast more. I'm glad that you love Mission Beach and envy you for living in San Diego. It's an amazing place! But you and I will just have to differ about the beaches and/or whether there's waves or not...it's just personal preference.
