I'm glad that you love Mission Beach and envy you for living in San Diego. It's an amazing place! But you and I will just have to differ about the beaches and/or whether there's waves or not...it's just personal preference. Cool. Like I said, I've never been to the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Re: Favorite US city you've been to
I've hitch-hiked around this country of ours and have called "home" in about half the states.
Lived near NY, Frisco, and Chicago. But the best place I ever lived was Yankton, SD.
In the late 70s they had a mini-woodstock event called "DakotaDaktol" (sp?) 12 bands played from sunrise to sunset, on a cliff over looking Lewis and Clark Lake. The final act was Leon Russell.
Lived there for five years, though it probably took ten off my life. Wild times and great people!

Pretty much the only thing I have ever liked about St. Pete/clearwater is the scrip clubs... Phoenix is a whole other thing, if you are going to be THAT hot, where is the beach? where is the grass? No thanks... Ditto that on Phoenix (and Arizona in general)...I'm not big on the hot and dry climate.
With respect to Florida's beaches, I would rate the Gulf beaches of the panhandle as the best the state has to offer. The Atlantic beaches would be second and the Gulf beaches on the west coast would be third.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
