I have a bunch of materials I need to buy for the electrical part our our basement. I'm going to check out Menards tonight for prices.
I wanted to get some feedback for online vendors for these items. I assume I could save the most money online with the wiring (1500' of 14-2 w/gr romex, 250' 14-3 w/gr romex). I'm also hopeful I could save some cash on the can lights, which are spendy by the time you get the light, trim and bulb.
I already know I'll most likely be getting 500' of both phone and coax from monoprice.
Try looking around locally at the more contractor oriented places (not HD, Lowes, or Menards) if you are buying in quantity you might get a better deal, plus if somethings broken it's a lot easier to get stuff returned.
There's a wholesale electric supply place called Brunia-Johnson located at 524 E 5th St. in Des Moines. I go there to buy wiring, especially the larger sizes and he is much cheaper than the box stores. He has it on large reels and will cut it to length for you. Not much of a place, it's a non-descript white building east of Principal Park across the river. Printout a map from Mapquest, it will be easier than me trying to explain how to get there. It's a wholesale place but the guy has never hassled me like most wholesalers do.
Don't buy junk can lights, you will regret it in a couple of years. I used Halo from Home Depot after numerous career electricians mentioned it. They have areasonably priced 6 pack deal.
