Anyone watching the Carrier documentary? I am not a military guy so I am ignorant to the internal workings of a aircraft carrier but it has sucked me in so far.

I'm watching now as well. The wife and I toured the Midway when we went to San Diego in January. It was one of the highlights of the trip imo.

oh god no! PBS??? what a worthless use of my tax dollars.
I think it's a pretty interesting production from what I've seen so far, it has a bit of reality tv in it with how they interview some of the personnel and involve personal stories. I guess that's what America craves these days. I was fortunate enough to go on a "Tiger cruise" several years ago with my brother when he was stationed on the USS Enterprise (another nuke carrier). It truly is amazing how those ships are floating cities and perhaps the single most powerful representation of American military might.

I was on board during the filming of this, you can see me in the Squadron pictures, I was an avionics tech (Mals 11) supporting the Red Devils. Fyi, the movie stealth was shot during this same tour...

Mine was on a bit smaller ship, only a helicopter carrier. The USS Bonhomme Richard. Was a lot of fun and I truly enjoyed it. | | |

Seems like they make all the enlisted look like boneheads, guess it is the Navy deck apes they are showing...

Never been a big fan of the way the Navy treats/sees it's enlisted. Just because someone is young, and enlisted in the military, doesn't make them dumb, or incapable.
It just seems the Army asks for more from, and respects their enlisted types more. (Though not enough, if you ask me.)
But... If I could be anything in the Navy at any time in history, I'd choose to be a WWII Sub Commander. Best combination of capability and freedom of action at the time. Plus, the esprit was pretty good among them.

I've been watching it, got me hooked too. Kind of reminds me of an MTV show with all the music and "drama". Not saying its like MTV, this is actually entertaining and the music isn't bad. That guy with the pregnant girlfriend has dump written all over it. OMG like I hope it like works out, like you know, like (channeling my inner 14 year old).

I have to think that boneheads are common in the enlisted ranks of all the branches based on whom I've met over the years and what branch they've served, as well as with my own brief experience in the USMC. But, from stories relatives have told me, there are some idiotic officers out there as well. When you have hundreds of thousands in uniform, you have hundreds of thousands of personalities and backgrounds.
