XP Service Pack 3

Has anyone out there installed XP Service Pack 3 yet? I see that Micro$oft has delayed it (due out yesterday) due to a glitch. I have read that there are methods of getting the final version of SP3 (via MajorGeeks for one).

Anyway, has anyone installed it yet? What do you think?

Piece of premo software will not work with XP or Vista, so release was delayed. MS solution is to filter out that software so it cannot download. Wow. What an innovative solution. The filter should not take too long to install except for the premo software.

How did M$ not realize this before reaching this point? They get to the day of the release and then realize it is incompatible with some software? If it is a big enough incompatibility issue to delay the release you would think they would have spotted this already?

Re: XP Service Pack 3

With OS service packs I usually wait a bit to see if there are widespread issues before I install it. MS stuff almost always seems to have some "glitch" intially with their stuff that I like to wait until it's fixed to buy or install it. My main PC at home I have not had to reinstall XP in over 5 years and that's installing all the updates so far so I cross my fingers every time a big update comes through. Still runs solid so no point in spending a weekend backing up and restoring everything until I absolutely have to.

I heard that the beta release was so widely praised by the testers that they halted the release. The reason being that corporate America is generally avoiding Vista like the plague. The story I heard was that they are now fearful that SP3 will make XP so stable that there will be even less need to "upgrade" to Vista.

Of course, this is just IT gossip so who knows how much validity there is to it.

Does anyone out there in cyberspace think Vista is an upgrade besides the delusional people at Microsoft?
