New phone: Samsung i760

Okay,

So I have had this for a week and so far so good.

I am hoping some of you out there know of productive tweaks that should be done.

Also, I am looking for free 'fun' software or other stuff to add to the device.

Thanks!!!

Re: New phone: Samsung i760

I can help you both, I have the i760, and my gf has the pearl!

First off, for both phones, get a memory card, at least 2gb. The on board memory is not good for either.

Again, for both phones, install Opera Mini. It is a way superior web browser. It is easily found by doing Google searches on either phone. For the I760, you can try getting in on the Skyfire browser beta as well. Skyfire is a neat browser in that it can do virtually any streaming video / audio that a PC can do.

Google maps is a must for both. The Pearl can do aGPS, which is nice. Basically it will tell you the general area you are in. The i760 unfortunately has no on board GPS capability (at least that Verizon makes availabe to other programs), so you would need to get a external GPS reciever for it. Even without it, Google Maps is still great, and free.

Blackberry provides google and yahoo messengers on their site, which is nice. For the i760 I use Mundu IM, which is only $10. You can find some freeware IM's for it, but they are usually missing Google Talk.

There are a couple tips for you. For the i760 this link should let you find out all you need to know about it:

Samsung SCH-i760 - PDAPhoneHome.com

You can find similar forums for the Pearl just by doing a google seach.

Hope that was helpful!

Setup Gmail via IMAP... then you can get your mail in nearly realtime, in addition to any exchange (corp. email) you may have.

If you have sirius or xm download the mobile apps so you can stream it to your phone.

I signed up for MLB gameday audio for windows mobile, now I can stream any baseball game live to my phone.

I acutally like Microsoft live search better than Google maps... With Live search you can just speak what you are looking for and it will find it for you.

Just go to Sirius.com and create an internet account. You get 1 streaming account for each subscription.

Had the Pearl, hated it. I now have the 8830 and love it.

Re: New phone: Samsung i760

Keep,

2gb is not the max. Check out that link to the forum I posted. They have a nice registry hack that will allow you to use a 4gb card. It works perfectly. And, Opera Mini is a fairly small program, it won't take much of your on board memory.

As far as your Sirius goes, if you have a subscription for your car, all you need to do is sign up at Sirius' website. From there, again do a quick search in the forum I sent you, it lays out where to find and how to set up a nice free little application to listen to Sirius on your phone.

If your phone doesn't have it already you need to download the .NET compact framework...i think your new phone will have that already.
