So I was going to help a friend out, because he's been complaing how terrible his computer was and then eventually it wouldn't even boot up to XP. So I was going to reformat it for him. Now I have reformatted terrible computers for people that were loaded with viruses and spyware and never had any problems reformatting it. But with this one errors pop up all the time while im reformatting it and don't even allow it to get reformatted... It is usually a different error every time I do it as well. The only thing I can think of is that the HDD is crashed or something. I know it would be hard to help w/o more specific details from me, but if anyone has any ideas or reccomendations that would be great!

Kind of a pricey program, but it does a good job verifying (and correcting) the operation of hard drives.

Could you explain exactly what this does?? Do I need to get into windows to use it, because also when I tried reformatting it, it got far enough to where the old windows was deleted.... so as of right now there isn't any on this computer!

Top of my head - try repartitioning and then reformatting.

Get a new HDD, if there is any doubt, it will save time, and hard drives are not that expensive. | | |

It boots to its own environment and scans the drive on a sector by sector basis (filesystem doesn't matter).
But if it's throwing errors on a format, it might be screwed any way.
Have you checked all of the cables?
