I heard about this on NBC News. They mentioned 1 of those arrested was getting their degree in Criminal Justice the other in Homeland Security (?).
They also mentioned one of the campus dealers was text messaging his coke deals to his clients.

Yeah, the article mentioned the ones getting their degrees. One of them asked if this would affect his future in getting a government job or something like that.

EDIT: Ah, here is the quote:

"A sad commentary is that when one of these individuals was arrested, they inquired as (to) whether or not his arrest and incarceration would have an effect on him becoming a federal law enforcement officer," said Ralph Partridge, special agent in charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in San Diego.

i was going to ask if they had better things to do then get on students for smoking pot... then I read the article - gooooood grief. The criminal justice/homeland security guys are funny/sad.

Also.... when did homeland security become a degree?

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

The sad thing is the drug thing is only going to get worse and more violent.

Harriet Michaels: Do you actually like haggis?
Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

Homeland Security is not only a degree, it is a freaking PhD program in several major universities, now.

Evidently, you need a PhD to strip-search 99 year old grandmas and confiscate nail clippers.

If you think that's what Homeland Security entails... you are sadly mistaken.

I'd rep you for that if I could...

No, that would primarily be the TSA part of it...

Problem is Homeland Security is a VERY broad group - given that it was the merger of what, 19 different organizations, and it itself does not contain all of the activities that could concievably fall under "homeland security" (aka FBI, CIA).

Homeland security entails everything from making sure the food being produced is ok to eat to catching illegal immigrants coming into the country, and everything in between.

A degree in Homeland Security sounds about as specific as a degree in Liberal Arts (not a Liberal Arts degree... a degree in Liberal Arts. As opposed to a degree in oh... Chemistry or English, which would be a Liberal Arts Degree)

More like **** his pants, the way people react to things at one school similar investigations are possible through out the country, though it sounds like this was a pretty involved investigation into a pretty big drug scandle. Doesn't mean it won't be the new buzz word for a while...

Here is another update:

Feds penetrated drug culture easily at San Diego State - Yahoo! News

I thought this was ironic:

The ringleader, a 19-year-old, brazenly sent out text messages advertising weekend blowout sales on cocaine, authorities say. Apart from that, however, the fraternity did little to attract attention. In fact, it was known for having a no-alcohol policy at its rundown gray house.
