The 75 Skills Every Man Should Master

From Esquire magazine -
(keep in mind that this is a men's magazine before you read it)

I don't agree with them all and don't understand why some of them are on the list, but it is a good list to think about:

Some of them too stupid to even address.

If you read it from an Iowa farmer's viewpoint, a good number of them seem ridiculous.

If you read it from a rich kid's viewpoint, you get a much different picture.

I'm not going to even read this. I've mastered about three things in my life. At least one of them I've had complete mastery of since my early teens. I don't have enough years left for the other 72.

I once played gin with an old guy on a plane. He was an "expert" and was spouting off terms and game variations that I had never heard of before. Anyway, I played along. We ended up playing quite a few games because the plane had to circle around DFW waiting for a thunderstorm to dissipate.

what if your an Iowa farmer's rich kid? or is that an oxymoron?

I grew up a farmboy and now am a city guy, I am definitely not rich...yet . But I can sure agree that I would have a different view on many of those 75 about 5 years ago.

One is having good pickup lines. One is driving a pickup stick. Another is handling a pick me up in a pickup.

I actually read it through.

Gotta disagree with frying an egg sunny-side up, (hate eggs) and throwing a ball (I have freakishly strong shoulders for my size, but cannot throw a ball, because of their construction)

But otherwise, I think it's a decent list, albeit just a touch wussified. IMO, a "real man" should be able to clear and make safe a firearm, and lead a group to a goal.

Cool list.

Agreed, some of the stuff was kinda wussy but I'd say a good portion was solid stuff that is good to learn or know.

Well, I did #22 last night, and am well gratified that I can do it.

The only one I disagree with is:
16: Tie a bowtie... Nobody ties their own bowties anymore, however one would be well suited to know how to tie a good windsor knot. I have seen some REALLY poorly tied ties.

I think all of the others are very valuble skills, especially throwing a ball

My wife tells me that one of the things about me that made her knees weak, is when we were still courting, after taking her to a formal event, I would grab the end of my bowtie, and pull it loose, letting it hang around my neck. Very "James Bond-ish" and very sexy, in her words.

But it's definitely "weird" and "old school".

How would Mike "Metrosexual" Greenberg stack up on the 75 items?
