If it starts to hurt really bad, and you vomit....get help proto.
You should be worried about incarceration (when a portion of the intestine becomes entrapped in the hernia and its blood supply is cut-off). Generally this is more of a problem with smaller hernias. The large ones are unlikely to have this problem.
what he said .... had a friend who had a pretty serious one, had to go to surgery like the next day but was back to normal in a week or so but hada stay away from extreme physical activity for about a month after that ....

I have lived with what I assume is a hernia for the past 4-5 years. It doesn't bother me at all, and only shows up after I over eat or go through a sneezing or coughing episode. Its right above my bellybutton and is kind of disgusting because I can literally tuck it back in if it pops out a little. I never thought much of it, but is there anything dangerous that can come of it besides some discomfort?
I have this exact same thing. The doctor told me some hernias can be ignored indefinitely, but I should not ignore this one and should get it fixed. His reasons were the pinched intestine thing that some have mentioned. I have put it off so far. I might have it fixed this summer when my wife is off.
