How about this theory? More good local pizza places are popping up. Locally owned places like Zoey's and Tomaso's in the Cedar Rapids area put the chain pizza stores to shame and probably cut into their sales. They also are larger and more expensive,so they tend to be a more of a special meal or weekend treat.

For the last decade or so, pizza consumption has trended away from chains, and towards mom and pop as well as "trendy".
Can't blame consumers for demanding quality over price, really.

I have to agree with people trying to eat healthier, or trying to save a bit to pay off their sub-prime loan or credit card bills.

A recession is when your neighbor or friend is out of work.
A depression is when you are out of work.
I think that's how it goes.

I have a friend that owns Tomasos and Zoey's is a mile away. I haven't had Pizza Hut in about 10 years unless they order it in at work.
I eat frozen pizza to much though.

I eat frozen pizza to much though. You, my friend, need to learn how to make your own....
It's surprisingly cheap and easy. I use the thick tortillas, or pita bread as a crust, and just use spaghetti sauce from a bottle. Put your own cheeze on, bake, and voila! Home made pizza....

Most of the time I like our homemade pizza better than anything we can get around here.
I had never thought about using tortillas or pita bread, we'll have to try that idea.

They have a membership program and if you eat their pizza at least twice a month, it is a GREAT deal... check it out

-keep Technically speaking, we are not in a recession. Recession is generally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative real GDP. Real GDP 1Q08 was basically flat (not negative) so we have not even had one quarter of negative real GDP yet.
Our press is being very "alarmist" over our economic news. What you really need to look at is the fundamental of corporate earnings...although they have slowed slightly, they are still relatively strong.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I eat frozen pizza to much though. I used to love Pizza Hut thin crust pork topping pizza. The crust was cracker crisp and the pork topping was finely ground. Then in one stroke of genius, someone decided the make all the ingredients large and chunky. It ruined it for me. That was probably 10 years ago and I've hardly had a pizza hut pizza since.

When I was at ISU I had that coupon card that had a bunch of local businesses and one of the things was 2 for 1 medium or large pizzas at Domino's. They used to have that crispy crust. Not sure if they still do. I got those a bunch.
