Re: Denver suggestions?

Lived in Colorado for a time. I'd echo some of the suggestions above:

1) Definitely hit up Red Rocks Amphitheater if you make it to Coors. It's the best outdoor music venue in the country in my opinion.

2) Coors Field rocks. Sit in the cheap seats and enjoy the lovely colorado weather.

3) Rio Grande (affectionately referred to as "The Rio") has the best margaritas I've ever had. And they're strong. House limit is 3.

4) There's a fun bar/restaurant near Rio Grande called 'Wazee Supper club' that I enjoyed.

5) If you want to shop and you've hit Cherry Creek and 16th Street, take the light rail south to Park Meadows Mall. It's the last stop at County Line Road. Really nice mall.

6) Oh, near Coors and Red Rocks is 'Look Out Mountain'. It's a free drive that ends at a great view of Golden and Denver.

Enjoy your trip. Wish I could say I was going to Denver this weekend.

2nd to last stop. The last stop is Lincoln, which is a good place to get off if you're going to dine at Hacienda Colorado.

I'm excited about so many of these outdoor things - it's only 45 there now, but it's supposed to be 70 or so this weekend. All of these are AWESOME suggestions!! Thanks so much!

Oops. Thanks for the correction :)

the GF and I went to Denver last October and rode the light rail for the first time. That's something Des Moines really needs.

Re: Denver suggestions?

angie,
the nice thing about many of these places is that they are within several blocks of each other in Lower Downtown. The Rio is great, but as others have mentioned, BE CAREFUL as the margs are wicked strong and delicious.

I do like the Wazee Supper Club, but I'm guessing it won't make the cut.
if you make it to the west side of I-25 , you might like the bar Forest Room 5. It is a little nicer scene, on par with Vesta, and way nicer than places like The SportsColumn.

PS. i wouldn't go to Park Meadows Mall. Nice Mall, but it is still a Mall and it is a long ways away from down town.
I hope you will report back after the trip.

I'm going to guess it would (will!) take exactly one of those margaritas to knock me on my butt! I've got an awesome list going here thanks to you guys - it sounds like I may need to get reservations at Sing Sing, but I have a whole bunch of restaurants/bars/events lined up. You guys have even hooked me up with good shopping!!

I will definitely report back - I've been telling all of my coworkers that I've got our whole five days planned!!

It snowed some today, but Sunday it is supposed to be 83 degrees! bring sunscreen...

Another Denver Landmark and nighttime hangout is El Chepultapec on the corner of Market and 20th across the street from Coors Field. They opened another 'Pec this year that I played at for awhile with the Denver Jazz Orchestra...cheap drinks and good music.

Oh, thank goodness - I'm bringing an umbrella just in case, but I wasn't looking forward to walking around in a dress and light coat if it was pouring and 40 degrees out!!!

#1 Reason why I like Colorado. It can snow all morning during your commute into work. By 3:00 the sun will come out, melt all of it away like it never happened. It snows here, but it is typically gone within a day or so. (Except for last year when we got a foot of snow every week)

This is so true....When I was Coaching H.S. Baseball in Denver, practice and games never got cancelled with the early morning 2-3 inch snowfall.....It would dissappear like magic......
