Bike to work week

If you are able...dust off the bike and ride into work this week:
BIKEIOWA, your site to Iowa biking, Bike Rides, bicycle information, Teams, Clubs, bike trails, Iowa, Des Moines Features

I'm an avid rider and always enjoy BTWW. Also rode the Livestrong ride in Des Moines yesterday and am always amazed to talk with cancer patients and survivors, their families and their doctors. It's the second year I've done it and it really brings things into perspective-I realize how fortunate me and my loved ones are to not have gone through a bout with cancer yet.

Re: Bike to work week

I rode mine in this morning. Kicked my butt...probably because I'm not in very good shape. I hope to make a two-or-three-day-a-week habit out of it so that I won't be in such bad shape.

Part of Team Joker... Love to ride but just moved to DSM work in Ames. Wish I could ride to work.

Although, I love being around DSM because of all the rides there are. Can't wait until the weather is just a hair better.

It was a bit nippy riding in this AM from Ankeny to downtown

This month has been terrible for riding. I have only gotten in about 4 or so quality rides. Sad thing I can't ride much on the weekend because of wedding obligations and getting things ready.

I do know I will be doing the Spring Beer Bash in Wall Lake coming up. I want to do the Spring Windmill ride to Okaboji but that is my wedding weekend.

Fun thing is my Bachelor party is coming up so we are going to ride in the Fat Tire ride and hopefully a handful of Jokers are coming.

Re: Bike to work week

I borrowed a friend of mines bike and rode it in to work today. It was a pretty good time and I really felt better for doing it. Considering at work all day I pretty much destroy the environment I thought this was the least I could do. Promise of a new day my brothers

Neal Smith trail down to the Botanical Center then the bike lane on Walnut (I think, or Grand) to downtown.

I'm glad I'm not downtown for BTWW anymore. That was a nightmare.

The best part, outside of the cost of gas that I save, is feeling good when I get to work. I always feel much more awake and less in need of caffine when I ride into work versus driving.

You also burn mad calories when riding. Check out this website for the TOMRV ride in eastern Iowa, it has a table of calories burned while riding if you scorll down it:

I've biked to work every day for the last 3-4 years even though I have 1 car and 1 truck. It's nice living close to work.

Re: Bike to work week

Cy Heavy, Do you have an estimate on how many were involved in the Livestrong ride? We'll probably never do the ride for the roses with Lance, but, we might be able to get a Livestrong ride started here in Lincoln/Omaha.
