At first i saw it go counter-clockwise, then I saw it go clock-wise...pills must be kicking in....

That's bizarre. I'm a CPA yet I saw the dancer going clockwise - I can't even imaging it going counter-clockwise. I must be into creative accounting.

Apparently, that figure is an animated GIF. I don't know much about how animated GIFs are made, but wouldn't the person who made the GIF have the dancer spinning a certain way? In other words, some people see the dancer spinning "correctly", and some people don't???

This illusion is an example of what is called the ambiguous motion effect, which is caused by an absence of depth cues. Your brain will attempt to make sense of this image by selecting a random direction that you will perceive the figure to be rotating in, although if you concentrate hard enough, you can change the perceived direction, or it can happen spontaneously. Most people probably perceive the image to be moving counter-clockwise because of the position of her feet or arms, which make one direction look a little more natural than the other. As for the whole Â¿right brain vs. left brainÂ¿ claim, there is no such thing as dominance of either hemisphere of the brain over the other. This is just a theory that has been invented to try to explain individual differences in language ability, creativity etcÂ¿, and has no empirical evidence at all. Both sides of the brain are responsible for all of these abilities to a degree. While we may differ in our abilities and personalities, we all use both sides of our brains equally.

After awhile, I could get the shadow of her foot to go counter-clockwise, but it took quite awhile before the actual body changed. I was stunned when it did - but if I don't focus it goes right back to clockwise. Definately left-brain dominant according to this. If so, I'm either in the wrong profession or very good at what i do.
