Hey guys. My name is Evan and I play basketball at a small NAIA school here in Iowa. I will be doing an internship in Des Moines this summer and had been planning on playing in the Capital City League until I had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in April. I was wondering if anyone knew of any pick up games around the area. I plan on getting a YMCA membership so I can play in-doors and continue some work outs. So if anyone knows of any pick up games I can get in, any information would be nice. Thank you.

The Ankeny YMCA opens up to the high school gym on Wed nights and Sunday afternoons. I have not played in the games but from what I hear it is a pretty good place to find a game.

Aspen health club in urbandale has really good competition. Theres a lot of former college guys and guys still in college that play there. Does anyone remember Howard Eaton. He plays there. He was a former all big 8 defensive team guy

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Anywhere to play outside in the summers? I used to love a good game under the sun...

Some teachers and other random people in Martensdale play Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6am. Kind of early I know. But for people that work early and have families, it's really the only good time to play. It's about a 10 minute drive from West Des Moines. There are a few people that played college ball that come. Not too tough, but a good time.

Anyone in the Ankeny area want to get pick up games going? That's the thing I miss the most about college is pick-up bball.

I was playing with a group of guys that rented out one of the Middle school gyms a couple hours a week but I'm not sure they are continuing through the summer.
