Business/motivation Books

I have read other posts about books people have read. So, Just wanted to see if any one had any suggestions on Business/Motivational/Leadership books to read. I personally liked Good to Great and The Goal..... Anyone have any other suggestions??

I'll probably take some heat for this, but here goes. I've read a lot of motivational and business books, but the best one for me was Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins. I didn't necessarily buy every concept in the book, but certain parts about it- especially as it relates to beliefs and what really drives people, were excellent.

The best book I ever read was "You Can Negotiate Anything". Breaks away from the boring theory most negotiation books get into and focuses on the most applicable parts using everyday occurances.

If you are interested in investments the classics are great: "A Random Walk Down Wall Street", "Liar's Poker", etc.

If you want to get really technical, "Valuation" is top-notch for understanding the discounted cashflow model for valuing companies.

I'm reading "Other People's Money" right now. It covers the S&L collapse of the 1980s. Some interesting parallels with some of today's banking issues.

"What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School: Notes from a Street-Smart Executive" by Mark McCormack.

It incorporates the business side of sports if you are interested in that. Very good read.

is there a book out there that can motivate me to read one of these? do i really need to spend money to have someone tell me how to motivate myself or be a leader? and how am i really leading if all i am doing is changing my personality to what someone else says it should be. maybe i just don't get it.

I just like to read other people's opinions and views. I don't necessarily change the way I think or do things based on these books.

Funny just today I got passed over for a job, I do not know even existed because supposedly I am not aggressive enough, and have trouble selling myself. Kind of funny, since my position is customer service/inside sales, and my customer's that walk in tell me I would be great at sales, that he woud say something like that, but oh well, I guess that is a kick in the butt to try motivate myself to prove him wrong.

My theory is things do happen for a reason.

It's not about changing your personality. It's about learning from the life experience of others, so that you don't just spend your time doing trial and error. One of the principal qualities of leadership is understanding that you do not know it all.

It took me 10 years to realize that self-improvement is, by and large, a sick joke. The self-improvement industry is designed to make money for self-improvement gurus, and that is it.

All you REALLY need to do is to relax, do what comes naturally, and to learn how to really execute in your job. That means, of course, really digging in to the nuts and bolts of your job, which requires some thought, research, and possibly monetary outflow of your own, but there is no "trick" to making things work.

Self-improvement will come naturally from being yourself and working hard.
