Re: When do you turn the air on?

I live on the 7th floor of my building and only spiderman could access the window, so I crack it open. It opens sideways and only 4-5 inches so I'm not too worried. Haven't had the AC on yet.

We have ceiling fans go all year long (I have to have it cold when I sleep), and the air has been on sporadically over the last month or so (can't open windows much due to allergies).

Re: When do you turn the air on?

Our house it has to get low 80's before it gets turned on.
I'm curious how folks in Iowa said it got up to 80 in there house today, yeah the high outside was slightly above 80 degrees but with insulation the temps shouldn't cross much above 76/77 inside. In August the 95 degree temps only cause it to be 89/90 in the school.

What's air conditioning? Its called open your windows in this country.

I usually start using my oil furnance in November and turn it off in late March. I only burn 250 gallons of fuel oil annually. I have a super duper energy efficient house with a top notch ventilation system.

You speak the truth. I've always said 9 months of summer, 3 months of winter.

I'd kill for a basement but down here there totally unheard of thanks to clay and rock.

Our apartment isn't built very well. I am convinced that the windows have cracks around them....our upstairs temperature is dramaticly different than the main floor so we have our fan running constantly now

Our current "house" has two foot thick stone walls and small windows. No need for air.

That and it's located on the side of a mountain in a forest that has strong "fairy tale" properties ensures that it never gets warm enough to notice.

And it's located on top of a cave, that was used by Celts to store their food, and to make primitive beer, before being a brewery.

The biggest downside, is that sometimes we wake up on Saturday mornings to a group of tourists on your driveway, looking at the house. We're historic and stuff.

Yeah heading to Germany is interesting, none of the people I stayed with had AC. Then again it helps that the average in July, for instance, is 10 degree's below northern Iowa's. It can get hot though like the first trip I went it was 40 degrees celsius(don't care about spelling right now also for those wondering its roughly 100 F) Overall I've heard reports of cooler and a bit less humidity. The second trip we had a week of 50's and 60's F in July something that would never happen here.

If you just bought a nice AC it would be a damn shame not to use it. Kind of like insurance. My health insurance used to be pretty expensive so I'd break a finger now and then just to use it. :)

It has to be hot at night before we will turn it on. I hate waking up in the morning and trying to dry my hair while sweating. So, that is when I insist it gets turned on.

My avatar is a pic I took from my phone camera at the spring game. Gotta love Cy on a bike.
