I do agree the solider needs to be punished, but not for the same reasons that the Iraqis are demanding it. I just think they're making a fuss for their own gains

Which has something to do with my comment about a lesser outcry over this happening to a Bible, 62
I guess that if an Iraqi soldier were to do the same thing here, we'd make the same demands they are. At least, that's how I would see it happening.

No, we wouldn't.

This is definitely a case of "when in Rome, do as the Romans", crossed with a "we want to eventually win this darned thing", and shooting the Q'uron/Koran/whatever, doesn't help us do either of those things. Neither of those things would apply to an Iraqi in the US.

The sniper is an idiot, who did something that is directly contrary to our stated tactical and strategic goals in Iraq.

And last time I checked, the furor over the event has pretty much died down, and the proper people have been mollified/paid off, and this has been turned into a "win" for the good guys, through very adroit handling by military and political leaders.

Alright, I respect your opinion on this subject. However, I feel the public outcry would have been the same here as it was there. I say this based on the Christian majority of this country, and not on the leaders and their actions themselves.

I guess if this were to happen here, the media outcry would have been the same, which was my original intent. Sorry for any confusion about the politics that would have been involved.

As for the sniper being an idiot, I agree. I also agree on your view of the "why" that this happened.
