From time to time I enjoy a good Bloody Mary. Everyplace is different. Who makes the good ones around here? What do they garnish it with? Pickle spears? Olives? Pickled green beans, etc? The ones made from scratch are best. But having said that, are there any mixes that will pass for being potable? Anyone have any recipes of their own?

Court Ave Brewery in Downtown DSM makes great ones. Also, Third Base in WDM makes good one too. I never liked the mixes, you are right, from scratch is best.

You should try a Caesar......
Same as a Bloody, except you use a Clamato Juice, the Clamato that says Bloody Spicy is the best......
It is very popular in Canada.....
At the Bar we use to Salt the Rim, Absolute Vodka, Clamato, Ice with a pinch of Celery Salt, Black Pepper and Salt, garnished with Celery Flower Stalk, Kosher Dill Pickle Spear and a couple Jumbo Stuffed Green Olives.......add tabasco for desired hotness... | |

Make sure wherever you go, that they use Absolut Peppar. Great spicey flavor for BM's.

The epithet "Bloody Mary" is associated with a number of historical (particularly Queen Mary I of England) and fictional women, especially from folklore. It is believed that inspiration for the cocktail was the Hollywood star Mary Pickford who earlier had a similar cocktail consisting of rum, Grenadine and Maraschino named after her.
In 1934, the cocktail was called "Red Snapper" at the St. Regis Hotel, where Petriot was hired at the time. It was here that tabasco sauce was added to the drink, and the name "Bloody Mary" eventually won popularity. In the 1960s it became popular to serve the cocktail with celery due to a guest at The Pump Room at the Ambassador East Hotel in Chicago.

I love Famous Daves' bloody mary. Its so peppery, I love it. I would like their recipe.
| Harriet Michaels: Do you actually like haggis? Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

In fact, I'm headed there in a few minutes...

Limey's Pub has the best in the Des Moines area. At least they did a few years ago. The breakfasts there are outstanding as well.
If you are looking for an easy mix. I only drink the Red Eye brand. More specifically their Habenero mix.
