Interested in coaching youth football?
There are a few youth football leagues in the DSM area - the league I'm referring to here is the West Des Moines ‘Lil Pro Youth Football League (WDMLYPFL). I learned last night the league had a larger influx of new players this year and they're short on coaches.
To learn more about the league if you’re interested in coaching or have a 3rd-7th grade child that would like to play, visit www.wdmlpyfl.com. Practices start August 18th this year.
The only formal requirement to coach is to attend one football seminar a year - this is to satisfy the league's insurance policy that all coaches have had some form of annual education. The two local options remaining this year are the Central College Clinic in Pella on June 14th and the IFCA Clinic in Ames on July 26-27th.
Please contact the WDMLPYFL or myself if interested and they or I can assist you in the process of applying and completing your education.

For those interested, the league is still in search of coaches for the '08 season.

Re: Interested in coaching youth football?
Well sadly, I think the league requires all coaches to be 21 or older. :)
For the Chiefs fans out there - this will be my first year as head coach and I'll have a 6th grade Chiefs team. It's not the Cowboys, but I can't complain about the colors.

Make sure you get us odds on each game, so we can set up CyBookie events for them. Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -

I wonder if I can get 10 year olds to run a run-n-shoot, no huddle offense???

22, what's the time commitment? Do you set your own practice times?

I follow the DM Catholic football league and some of those practices look more intense than what my college practices were.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating. -

Sure you can - it's the wrong shade of cardinal. Everyone else complains about it Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

Yes, I set my own practice schedule. I have not yet completed it, but likely it will be Monday-Thursday from 5:30-7:50. Wednesday will drop from that schedule once it goes down to 3 nights a week. Once it gets darker, practice time will move up to 5 and end at 7:20.
Games are held on Saturday (3rd-5th grades) and Sunday (6th and 7th grades). Last year the first game was on Sept. 15th with the last regular season game on Oct. 14th and the "playoffs" (which is just one game) the following weekend.
I am currently in search of up to 2 more assistants - however league wide there is a need for assistants - so anyone interested can coach wherever they'd like.
So far it will be myself and another long-time friend that also happens to be a member here. :) Originally Posted by wartknight You'd be amazed what some of the coaches at this level have their players doing. I coached for a former college and NFL player my first 3 years in the league and practices were very intense - especially when we were coaching 7th grade. Last year (5th grade) we had to dial it down some.

Re: Interested in coaching youth football?
Also, as a staff - I hope to attend one or two ISU practices early this fall to obtain some ideas for drills, conditioning, etc.
