My personal fave is Dazed & Confused. Great movie and great soundtrack. If anyone wants to add a poll, please do so... This has to be some type of mistake!!! To not include "Risky Business" is darn near Communist!

Re: Which movie best represents its era...
I think I'd have to go with "The Sandlot" - at least for the early 60's. "The Big Chill" has to fit somewhere in the 70's.
"Fandango" for the late 60's.

90s, Reality Bites should probably be in there even though I don't like it.

Re: Which movie best represents its era...
What about "Saturday Night Fever" for the 70s?

I think 10,000 B.C. does a bang-up job of representing its era... Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

My personal fave is Dazed & Confused. Great movie and great soundtrack. If anyone wants to add a poll, please do so... Dazed and Confused is by far my favorite out of them. I think the Breakfast Club represents high school much better in the 80s than Fast Times. Out of the 90's I prefer American Pie.

Re: Which movie best represents its era...
Dazed and Confused, The Program and Tommy Boy were all pretty popular movies that seemed to sum up, in odd ways, my high school years (graduated HS in 96)

Re: Which movie best represents its era...
Outside of the hazing, Dazed and Confused did a pretty good job summing up a typical summer weekend from my highschool years.
I graduated in '92. So I vote Dazed and Confused for the early 90's.

I know people think of the movie as a promotion of disco but the movie tells a strong story about urban life in America in the 70s.
Plus...Travolta is so cool!

While I am no way stopping the discussion of some of these great movies, but I do want to reiterate that is was to discuss the best movie about high school representing the decade in the movie. Thanks for all the great responses.

Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:

It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'
