Anyone ever been there before? The wife and I were thinking of checking it out on our date night. We've heard some good things, but are just wondering what to expect.
"What a horrible night to have a curse."
-Simon Belmont
"Please bury me with all my stuff, because you know it's mine..."
-Master Shake
"Passersby were amazed by the unusually large amounts of blood."
its family style, the last time I went it was pretty good. I still hear good things about it. Nilands reopened again up on Old 30 and HW 65, that was alright too. The resturant is done up in 50's decor kinda with I think the History of that area too.
Yes. I work in Nevada and my co-workers like to eat there frequently. If you are in to open face hot-beef sandwiches, gravy, canned green beans and sassy waitresses you will enjoy this place. It is very popular in the area. No substitutions or changes. You are going to eat it the way they want you to.
Nilands doesn't have the same character but it's a neat little place on what used to be the intersection of the Jefferson and Lincoln Highways. Very historic.
I don't really dig beef gravy and fries cuisine, but I have valued the experience at dining at both of these places.

If you REALLY want to impress her on date night, take her to The Cottage on Broad in Story City.
As long as you're talking about central Iowa dining, there's a place in Iowa Falls that is right on the river, but I can't remember the name. It's got a patio/porch/veranda that overlooks what I believe is the Iowa river. I had a great meal there on the way back from Minn. Does anyone know the name of this place?
