Lost ID

OK gentlemen I need a little back up here, hopefully I'm not wrong

I was at The Sands tonight playing in my volleyball league. The deal is you give them your ID you get the volleyball to play. After my game I went to turn in my volleyball and get my drivers lisence. After 20 minutes of searching it was determined that my ID had been given to someone else.

I was a little heated about the situation since I didn't get as much as an "I'm sorry" from the staff. Basically they accused me of stealing the ball so I could get something free. I then asked if I could keep the volleyball since they didn't have my ID, which they said no.

My wife said I needed to cool down and not make a big deal out of this, did I over react?

By the way I may have dropped the F Bomb on the lady who asked if this was really my ball.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Lost ID

I would have kept the ball. And sent a letter to their manager....but I'm not the type who gets mad an drops the F bomb. I'm the type that lets it simmer and you'll hear about it till it gets fixed

This just reminds me about the multiple stories I have about Blockbuster.

First Time:
"Sir, our records show you never returned it."
"I guarantee I did, but I'll pay for the fee just in case I forgot about it."

Second Time Two Months Later:
"Sir it shows here you still have this rental out."
"I already purchased that video after returning it to you guys."
"Oh wait, sir, I was mistaken, it says here we have been holding that copy for you because you purchased it."
"Can I have my movie then?"
"I'm sorry, we throw out unclaimed items after 30 days."

That's the short abbreviated version about that story. I left out the part where I talked to the General Manager, and then got on the phone with the regional manager, and then made an official complaint to them where they promised to get back to me in 2 weeks which they never did and I also left out that all they had to do was offer me like a 5 dollar gift certificate and I would've been happy. Everybody makes mistakes but you should cater to your customers.

I now refuse to rent at Blockbuster.

"If you can't hear me, it's because I'm in parentheses."

Re: Lost ID

I understand mistakes and all it would take to make things better would be "I'm sorry, what can we do to make it better" or "I'm sorry, here's a free beer while we look for your ID"

One thing that may have happened. When I was in High School I had a friend that was in college that worked at a bar. He would steal licenses and sell them to underage kids. I would've never bought one if I knew how he obtained them first.

Hopefully this isn't what happened.

We discussed this and probably is what happened. The guy also said that alot of the time they don't look at who they are giving the ID to and it goes to the wrong person.

Licenses of people in their early to mid 20's are golden. My wife lost hers in a bar one night. When she called the next day to see if anyone had turned it in, whoever answered the phone almost laughed at her.

Re: Lost ID

it took me 9 months to fix my student loans with the people who consolidated them. Who would think it would be that difficult to read what was on the paper I signed and put it into a computer?

You should have taken the other person's ID for trade bait.

Re: Lost ID

Getting mad at customer service people rarely results in any better outcome than working patiently with them does.

If there's something they can do about it, they are far more likely to help you if you're understanding and nice about it than if you're a major dick.

Just the other week, a server gave my debit card to some other guy. I got a free beer out of it, and had to put up with a bit of hassle to get a new one. In the end, me getting upset about it would have changed nothing, other than them being grumpy for being yelled at.

Plus, I was wearing ISU stuff, and I'd rather represent ISU fans in a more positive light than the yelling, pissed off guy you always see when stuff like that happens.

I won't say you were out of line, but it sounds like you certainly could have handled it better, though I love using the F word at every opportunity, so I won't gig you for that :)

The Sands sucks from what I've heard. I know people that have moved their VB and softball teams to different places because they didn't like that place.

Re: Lost ID

I used to play the big tough guy when it came to getting issues resolved. Some times it worked, but usually it just got me worked up. It's pretty much always worked to be friendly who you are talking to. I always call them by their first name and this line works almost 100% of the time "<so-and-so>, I appreciate you trying to help me with this, but if you have a manager I could talk to, I'd really appreciate it."

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Re: Lost ID

As someone who works in the customer service industry, I personally would have tried as hard as humanly possible to be patient, as it could have been someone else's fault that the ID was lost. I know what it's like to get yelled at because someone else screwed up.

However, in true passive-aggressive fashion, I would have dropped the f-bomb several times the moment I walked out the front door.
