If you are interested the Pacific side of WW2, there is going to be a 10-part miniseries on HBO coming out in 2009, called The Pacific. It's going to be a lot like Band of Brothers in that it's based on some very good books about the Pacific side of the war. Here is some info on the series...

So true. Far fewer people would go into a similar battle today knowing full well they'd likely lose their lives.

Call it dumb or brave - I care not. These people set the table for where we sit today.

Some of use were discussing this at work today. The decisions these men made, both the leaders that made the tough calls and the men that knew what those calls meant for them, had a courage that we just don't see from ourselves today. Maybe if we had to face those conditions, but that's a big maybe.

And because of them, we have the privilege and right to sit here and reminisce about what they've done for us.

Cybone mentioned the Marshalltown service. In my years with the Guard in Marshalltown, I always took part in that color guard. That is one of the things I must say i miss the most.
