Bears!

I have had musk ox, caribou, reindeer, and moose in my yard but today was a first that I spotted bear from my dwelling. The attached photo was taken from my living room window.

You've got that right.

I have everything that my heart desires living here. But in deference to my spouse there are no WalMarts in this area so off we go to Colorado next week.

CO is beautiful as well. WY is brown and boring.

I have heard that the most dangerous creature on earth, is a Brown Bear sow, with two adolescent cubs.

The reason why, according to the several sources I've heard this, is because she is already cranky as it's getting time to wean them, and they are precocious enough to need her help out of trouble, constantly.

As a result, she is supposedly predisposed to "attack first, ask questions later".

Any feedback as to whether this is true?

Re: Bears!

Brown bears will fiercely defend their young and man is no match for a big bear.

However, the most dangerous creature probably depends on how you define "dangerous" and "creature".

Humans are dangerous and have the potential for violence. But are they creatures?

Polar bears haven't developed a fear of humans while brown bears generally try to avoid human contact. Therefore, if I had to be in the surroundings of either a polar or brown bear, I would select the brown bear.

I've heard before that the most dangerous critter on earth is the human infant. In and of themselves, they appear harmless and cuddly, but their crying gets the attention of their parents, who have indirect access to thermonuclear weapons.

Re: Bears!

There were a number of lengthy threads on a recent MMA contest.

MMA pales in comparison with nature.

Just yesterday, a local school teacher had a brown bear that attacked and killed two moose calfs within sight of his front window. He witnessed the bear poaching and killing the moose calfs. while the cow moose looked on. It was a scene not for the faint hearted.
