Gas prices up again

Glad I filled up at $3.67 last night, just saw it jumped to $3.89!

Ever notice how gas only goes down a few cents at a time but always goes up by 10-20 cents at once?

We are jumping from $4.29 per gallon to $6.10 per gallon.

Re: Gas prices up again

As I was filling up today at 11:00 for $3.67 the lady came out and changed it to $3.89. Just in the nick of time! I'm not one to drive around to save a penny or two/gallon on gas, but I'll sure take saving $.22/gal on 18 gallons

They are moving my office from Downtown Des Moines to West Des Moines and I calculated its going to almost be $100 a month decrease in pay.
That sucks.

Most down here have jacked the price up to $3.84 with some in Fayetteville already at $3.99. Fortunately, just across the border in Missouri, Wal*Mart and MacAdoodles were still at $3.59 which was obvious by the traffic jams around the pumps. I topped off and should be good for the week.

Really, in the grand scheme of things, who cares. Maybe we can wean ourselves off oil now. Time to get rid of the SUV's folks, it is never going back to $1.

Time to get rid of trucks?

The people I feel bad for are the guy who actually need to use their trucks for a living. Most of the people in the trades either have a full size truck or full size van, and I doubt they are seeing a raise to take care of the added expense.

When I heard oil went up a kajillion dollars a barrel yesterday I made sure to fill up my car and the gas can for my lawnmower. I felt pretty smart when I went out this morning and saw gas shot up overnight too.

I ran out and gassed up yesterday also. It was a no brainer. If you run on fumes, you could lose you $500 fuel pump.

If I get rid of my SUV what can I tow my boat with? Last I checked a Prius can't handle a tongue weight of 7000lbs.

I read an article that in 2010 Chevrolet is going to mass produce "The Volt" a electric car. This may well indeed be the future.

Re: Gas prices up again

Building vehicles similar to what we have today that get twice the gas mileage is the best answer. Car manufacturers have been getting a free pass on MPG standards for way too long.

Case in point: 2006 -> 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Somehow with a few magical tweaks to the exact same engine they managed to get 4 mpg more out of it in the 2007 model. I'd love to have someone at GM explain why they didn't do that in say...1995.

farmers are getting killed out of this, that's who I feel for the most. It's a never ending cycle for them, no sooner get their crops planted and it's time to cut and bale hay.

True, but many of even those folks can think smarter and get by with less. My brother farms and a couple years ago bought a beater minivan to putt around the farms and carry stuff around. He still has a pick up for the occasional time he pulls a trailor, but get's by 90% of the time with the minivan. He's saved a ton of fuel doing that.

I lived in Europe for a year and people work just as hard there and seem to get by with much smaller vehicles. I remember the guy who used to pick up feeder pigs from the farm I worked on came with a trailor hooked onto his BMW car. Worked fine for him. It gave me a double take every time he drove in.
