Flooding In Ames 6/8
Does anyone know if Ames is flooded again. I am supposed to drive into Ames and watch and kids softball game on the south side (I think its called Hunziker or something).

Re: Flooding In Ames 6/8
It's getting closer. I was just over the river that runs north of campus, and it's at the top of the banks, and is expected to go over. Between that and the other creeks/rivers that go through town, I'd expect to see some flooding.

Yes, if anyone could post any flood info that would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck in NE Iowa working for the summer, and I'm afraid my home in ames may get flooded if the waters get any higher than last week. Thanks.

I wouldn't think it would get higher than it did last week. At least it doesn't look like it will. But I'd expect to see some minor flooding.

I've got a buddy that works for the Corps of Engineers at Saylorville. He called and told me to buy lots and lots of bottled water for the next couple of weeks. -

I could be mistaken on this but the Des Moines River is where all the water near Fort Dodge drains too. Lucky for Ames the Des Moines River stays to our west. However, the skunk river which actually passes right through ames and starts up near highway 20 has received lots of rain. I've heard story city was flooding quite quickly.
So basically, Ames will flood again based on the NWS forecast hydrographs, however, it isn't due to all the rain up near fort dodge.

Oh, and just so everyone knows, a tornado watch was just issued for south central iowa, extending as far north as ames. There is another line of storms with heavy rain headed our way. Not looking good as far as flooding.

It is prob too late but I will anwser anyway, the soocer fields on the East of the roadway were still under water Friday from the rains earlier this week. I am not sure about the softball fields they are harder to see from highway 30, but I would guess the outlook may not be good. I would also guess parking will be less than normal.
