Boat Rental - Okoboji
Taking the family to Okoboji in a couple of weeks. Any good referrals for a short-term rentals (1/2 day or so) for a fishing boat?
Nothing larger than a 4 passenger needed.
Thanks.

Sorry, I cant help with rentals. I can, however, strongly recommend that if you plan to spend any time at all on West Okoboji that you get something bigger than a 4 seat fishing boat. If the choppy waters don't get you, the far-too-many large boats skimming across those choppy waters will. Not to mention that many of the boaters on the weekends are not exactly sober.
Even East lake is no picnic this time of year.

Here are your options:
--Funtime Rentals -- used to be located next to the Ritz. It may have moved over to Okoboji Boat works
--Mau Marine -- Give their boat house a call. They have pontoons and ski boats.
--Village West -- they used to have rentals down at the boathouse as well. It may have changed recently but would give them a call as well.
--Extreme Watersports -- info above
Unless you know boats real well, don't take the kids tubbing or skiing on the weekend up there. much too dangerous.

Even East lake is no picnic this time of year. Very good advice. Not a safe place to be in a little boat.

Also get a quick run down of what buoys mean up there. The no wake and danger ones are extremely important.
Had a coworker rent a boat and he thought the buoy off the point meant to stay "in between" the buoy and the shore. Doh! Totaled out the lower unit on a rock.

Re: Boat Rental - Okoboji
Thanks for the input. I should have clarified. Have been to Okoboji for years. Just never rented a fishing boat before.
Understand the "traffic" and boating issues. We are looking for a fishing boat for early morning (1 or 2 weekdays) before the skiers, jet ski's, etc. take over.
Thanks again.

If you're out during the week it shouldn't be all that bad.
