New flood rumor
Just heard that Austin, MN got 7 inches of rain in this last storm and it's all headed down river. Apparently cops are going through Waverly and evacuating the entire town... I'm in Cedar Falls and don't like the sound of this one bit.

Re: New flood rumor
If I read the NWS info right, it was closer to 5.4"
However, the Cedar River in Austin has gone from 6.7 feet at midnight to 21.1 feet at 3pm.

Re: New flood rumor
I live in SE MN and we received a lot of rain last night. I don't know how long it takes or where the water goes but I am sure it is going somewhere in Iowa.

Re: New flood rumor
Looks to me like all of the rivers from the Austin/Albert Lea area head right toward Cedar Falls/Waterloo. And from there it heads to Cedar Rapids.
With all of the water heading into DM, what does Red Rock look like right now? I assume that is where all of that water is heading?

Re: New flood rumor
I'm sitting at work in Waverly right now and I've yet to see a cop. In case you're wondering I work about 6 blocks from the river.

Perhaps locally in spots, but I doubt it...probably more like 3-4 in most of that area. This page updates every morning around 9 and shows the precip totals over the last 24 hours. Re: New flood rumor
All headed toward Waverly, Cedar Falls, then on to Cedar Rapids.

Re: New flood rumor
Red Rock is swelled up pretty good, but it hasn't garnered a lot of attention because it is kind of out there by itself away from endangering a lot of places. But they have a couple gates on the damn wide open and I think it is letting more than 50,000 gallons out per second. The river below it has risen at least a few feet in the last 24 hours.
The water is just pouring from the damn, there is a lot of pressure there.

Re: New flood rumor
Yeah, my aunt and uncle own the movie theatre in Waverly (which is right next to the river) and the are going to lose everything for the way it sounds. It hasn't already coming in to the building and covered about 9 rows of the auditoriums. The problem is, they live in the loft above the theatre. Not only out of business but out of a place to live. -
Re: New flood rumor
Good memories of the Palace Theater.
Wednesday nights had $1 showings at midnight for the college kids and it would be packed.

Re: New flood rumor
This forecast includes upstream rainfall through Noon. Not as bad as the recent record crest, but not good either. Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service: La Crosse: Cedar River at Charles City
Edit: My bad. Precip through noon when I posted, not 7pm. The forecast should be updated this evening. Check the bottom right for update time. Round the nearest forecast back to either 1pm, 7pm, 1am or 7am and that includes precip up to that point.
