Recommendations please

Just moved back to central Iowa after ~4 years overseas. I need to get cell service for my bride as well as internet at home and either Direct TV or Cable. Recommendations? What do I need to consider?

Depends if you want HD.

I went with Qwest and Directv

could not be happier, but I wanted a lot of HD.


If you can somehow stomach Mediacom's customer service... their product is solid

Broadband=Mediacom is the best but twice as high as Qwest. I went from Mediacom to qwest no regrets.

TV=Hands down Directv. Get a HD DVR(HR21) and your set.

Cell=I've been happy with verizon. Wasn't so happy with Sprint.

if you have Qwest in CR area and the river has a 500 year flood, you get knocked out indefinately.

Mediacom is the devil, but they have dry internets

Mediacom sucks plain and simple. They had a good poduct but the product went to their heads and they priced themselves out of the market, plus their service sucks. I switched to Qwest DSL and it is just as fast as mediacom and a crapload cheaper.

We have DISH for TV and I am very happy with it, but I switched from Mediacom so I might be too easily satisfied.

I have been with USCellular since 1994 and would have to say it is probably the most economical cell package you can find, unless you travel much out of Iowa and part of the surrounding states and then the cell coverage is not nearly as good and I would look at somebody else.

Choice Extra w DVR and HD service
About $75/month

Mediacom was about the same price but a lot fewer HD channels. Mediacom has 2 advantages. Locals in HD and channel 22 which every couple weeks has a good show/game on.
