We've all heard the phrase, "Famous last words". I have used it recently when reading all the stories about the people who have been affected by the flooding:
"We never thought it would get this high", mostly from people who saw the water coming and believed it wouldn't go any further and now see their homes flooded. My cousin lost all her stuff that was moved to the second floor of her apartment complex in Waverly because "The water never got that high".
Hey, price26, it appears you live in Ames. What's happening there, flood-wise? Haven't heard a word about Ames and flooding during all the coverage in recent days. Perhaps your watershed to the northwest missed most of the rain?
No water on the flood plain on which Hilton and JTS are built?
I live in Evansdale (adjacent to Waterloo). I live maybe a mile from the rampaging Cedar River. My neighborhood is bone dry; I'm fortunate, and don't I know it.
Some of the famous last words we're hearing are innane, but I wonder if they're not spoken by people in semi-shock. . . .
