Re: Parting Shot...
Poor protocol. Untactful. Perhaps if she had her priorities a little more organized she could have avoided coming to Ames all together. But I am sure that her advanced cultural sensibilities need for diversity were blinded by pure ambition.
I wonder what the Smart Growth folks think of this. The retail in Ames is terrible, but she is nuts if she thinks that the food options are limited. I think it's one of the strongest points in Ames. I have a friend who moved to Green Bay and said that one of the few things he missed about Ames was the variety of food choices available here. Maybe she was too mired in "research" to make an effort to look. I do think things like this are good occasionally to find out what people really think. If Ames and ISU want to lure and retain these elitist academics then they need to provide them with the amenities that they want.

I tell you, academics just tick me off. I have never met a group of more narrow-minded bigoted, frankly STUPID people in my life. Most academics qualify under the "couldn't pour pee out of a boot with the instructions on the heel" category, as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like she bought her 101 Dalmations-themed interviewing suit from North Grand Mall's Disney Store. (Not sure if they actually have one.)

Re: Parting Shot...
What a ******** pig. It's people like this that gives Academics a bad name.
Shopping? So what, she thinks she's going to be able to shop at Cartier and Burberry in Columbus?
tOSU's campus is more diverse than ISU? I don't consider my time at ISU unique from any of yours and I was educated by people who were Chinese, Korean, Jewish, German, Belgian, Lebanese, Serbian, Muslim, gay, lesbian, black, Ivy Leaguers and ISU grads, people in thier twenties and people in their seventies. Are there extraterrestrials on tOSU campus?
Columbus is more diverse than Ames? Yeah, it's right up there with NYC, London, LA, Hong Kong and Buenos Aires.
Tell me she didn't mention football as if she ever went to a game or that she will ever go to an OSU game except maybe to sip some Chardonay in a luxury box.
******* pig.

Well, the good news is that at least she is gone. I would rather have her gone than still teaching here if she hates ISU and Ames so much.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for research and advancements, but not at the expense of the students paying for an education. I got the feeling that the people in the dept I was interested in were more concerned about their research than teaching students.
Just my $.02 on the situation. I hired a University of Iowa graduate many years ago. He had an undergrad and completed all coursework for his Masters, but he didn't pass the oral exam. He was always critical of the faculty that did not care if you learned. Their attitude was that learning was the responsibility of the student. I guess their job was research or publishing papers, not teaching.
Years later I took some graduate level classes at SUI and I saw exactly what he was talking about. This guys is as big a Hawkeye fan as there can be, which makes his criticism of the faculty all the more meaningful.
This Dean better hope her new job works out. Sometimes these things can come back to haunt you.

Re: Parting Shot...
If somebody were interviewing for a position with me and they spoke this way about their current job, I would not hire them. Period. I don't care if they are the most qualified. People like this tend to be cancers and will do more harm than good. I'm glad she's gone from ISU, she's OSU's problem now.

Am I the only one that didn't see this as a slam? It's not like it's untruths or anything.

Re: Parting Shot...
According to statistics, OSU has 14% minorities and ISU has 9%. Not an enormous difference, but Ames isn't very diverse.
