Re: Getting into Iowa City from the EAST, Illinois.

Isn't 30 back open?

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I think it's open for local traffic only (how they plan on enforcing that I have no idea...)

Fair enough. I've only driven across the bridge once (on my way back from WIU-Macomb) and it was years ago. It's a pretty spectacular bridge, anyway.

You're definitely right about that. What is that, an extra 5 hours to Iowa City?

My friend told me it took him almost 7 hours to get there. He said it was over 13 hours round trip. Under normal conditions, it would have taken him an hour and a half to get there.

It appears that i-80 has been reopened:
Interstate 80 to open at 4 p.m. | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Looks like Iowa DOT will have some road raising projects.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

All I gotta say is right now I'm resisting the urge to be a complete and udderless douchebag with this picture, considering the thread that it's in and everything that's gone one in this state the last couple of weeks...

Awful both in terms of distance (miles and time) and the large number of trucks on highway 20. The road can get pretty narrow in places, although it's worse on the Illinois side of the river. We did it yesterday. Pretty country in the Dubuque area if you want to look for the bright side.
Uhhh as far as it being a backwards way I'll agree but Highway 20 its great to drive on in Iowa. 4 lane all the way to Fort Dodge limited access in most parts, lightly traveled, I fly down it(another side note despite it not being an interstate it really should be 70 mph between Webster City and Cedar Falls). I love that they finally finished that portion after about 40 years(now if only they could get some traction going westward...), also the view over the Iowa River valley is spectactular, I can ensure that it won't be flooding anytime soon.
