The ISU student was discussed about a week ago, can't remember what thread or his name. I remember he was going to be a junior this fall and was helping his dad on the farm when he was struck by lightning.

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

In times like this I hate to admit that I am a severe weather enthusiast. I love to watch nasty storms... but stuff like this is terrible and I (and neither does anyone else) don't wish this kind of stuff on anyone. One thing I am trying to do is report severe weather when I see it occurring, in hopes of saving people's lives and property.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Back to the original thread topic.

This shows why it is better to live in the country than the city.

-no curfews, or kept out of your property.

I understand safety to a point, but it is there own house let them in.

Another show of force from government that people need protected.

Before someone gets on me for not understanding what destruction is or what others are going through. My parents lost there house to the same tornado that went through Parkersburg. Glad they live in the country.

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

I am going to say this as nicely as possible, some of the areas flooded had some areas that didn't exactly have the 'cream of the crop' as far as residents. There is a reason they are trying to lock things down there.

I have to agree with you -- it does seem kinda strange to pull a gun on someone, essentially threatening their life in order to 'save their life'. (Unless I'm confused on the situation in which the officer brandished his pistol).

That's the sticking point. The photo captures an instant of this situation. We have no idea what lead up to this event or what happened afterwards.

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

It's easy to blame the government and say that they should just be let back in, but then the first person who gets injured in any way going back to their home with a gas leak or any other issue and the city will be the ones sued and blamed. Either way it is ugly and it isn't as easy as live out in the country and isolate yourself.

And if something happens to them if they let them in too early, you can bet your bottom dollar that the lawsuits will come a'flyin' and the same people that are being "kept out" will be screaming that the government didn't protect them. Unfortunately, far too often the job of police and safety officials is to protect people from their own stupidity.

I see no problem with keeping people out of the area. If there is a gas leak, someone will no doubt light up a smoke and blow the place up. Then the city will get sued for letting them in there.

As for the picture, we can't tell what transpired to that point. Maybe the driver was repeatedly told they can't go in, but proceeded to curse at the officer and force their way around. I wonder what the other officer is doing...looks like he is just chillin.

If someone from the country lit up a smoke and the house blew up from a gas leak, do they sue the county? I have never heard of that type of lawsuit, someone should be protecting the people in the country. <sarcasm/

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

I don't think anything will "blow up", but with gas on top of the flood waters a nasty mobile fire might start and burn down several buildings.

Wasn't there a bad fire on the Ohio river in the 70's?

IIRC, the fire on the Cuyohoga was due to all of the chemicals being dumped into the river by industry.

Edit: I'm wrong. Oil slick.
