It's not safe for them to be allowed into there homes. Do you think they keep people out because they think it's a good laugh?

And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

It's not an issue of the city/police force not understanding what these people are going through / show to force just because they can, I'm sure there are members of the police force that were removed from their own homes as well.

The issue is that there's no telling how much structural damage was done to the houses due to all the water. The city (or big brother as it were apparently) does not want people getting crushed in their homes as they try to get out their stuff

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

Can we please change the title to this thread? We do not know that the person in the vehicle is even a flood victim. He/She could be just a random person from somewhere else trying to say that they need to get some stuff out of their house when they are just going to loot a real victim's house when everyone isn't there.

To another post - it is great that you live in the country. Really, good for you. I'm glad to hear it. You do realize, however, not everyone gets to really choose they live, right? There are constraints that are imposed on people which may dictate where they can or can not live. Although, if you want to blow your own home up, feel free to since you live in the country.

Sorry about the rant, I needed to get rid of some stress. There is probably a little more sarcasm than is intended.

Here's the article about why they aren't letting people back into their homes right now. Cedar Rapids: Hazards halt residents' returns | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Police said inspectors found too many gas leaks, collapsed basement walls, missing manhole covers and other dangers in flooded neighborhoods.

One Alliant Energy worker fell through an open manhole as he waded through shallow water, Alliant spokesman Ryan Stensland said early Monday. Stensland said crews were able to get the worker out immediately. No injuries were reported.

Save us tonight, the last hope for all of us,
Light-years gone by, we're still holding on,
Save us tonight, a star shines in all of us,
Far beyond our lives, still our glory lives on.

The people affected are upset. My point of it is better to live in the country because you don't have big brother looking after you stands.

I don't live in the country. My point is those in the city have to deal with more B.S. than those who don't.

Wasn't there a bad fire on the Ohio river in the 70's?
Also Grand Forks in North Dakota (I think). There the city was flooded, fires somehow started and burned the entire city down while it was flooded. Dags prolly can give more details on what happened.

So, just saw a blurb on CNN.com that apparently the guy did try to run the roadblock, ran into a state trooper three times (I'm guessing he was nudging the guy who is pointing the gun at him), and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

Okay, I will say it. The guy is an idiot, he got arrested and he deserved to get arrested. Take your SUV out tonight and bump a cop with it three times and see what happens to you.

There are a lot of highly trained individuals assessing the situation in the flood area and if they are keeping people from their homes, there is a good reason for it. There are roads washed out, gas lines broken, lots of fuel and who knows what else in these areas. It would really suck to have your house 10 feet under, but at this point, getting back into it a couple days sooner is not going to make a lot of difference in terms of what can be saved or what can be cleaned. The only bad part is that if the muck is allowed to dry completely, it is tough to clean off of things. It is a giant mess and will be for quite some time.

Was the guy wearing Patriot or Vikings gear? If so, he could be a repeat offender. I doubt if he will get hit with two $50,000 fines like what happened with the Minneapolis incident.

I should clarify that the officer wasn't injured in this little incident.

Just make the people going back in sign a waiver saying the city is not at fault. No brainer solution.

Re: Officer pulls gun on CR flood victim

I'm sure that there are some people who think that we should be able to risk our life if we want. Want happens when we need to be rescued? Then the officers, firefighters, national guard, etc will have to risk their life to rescue us. Even if they made it clear that people can go through but the government will not rescue them, there would still be an out cry if the government left them to die.

I've been on both ends (evacuee/evacuator) of major wildland fires and regardless of the situation, assaulting someone is not the answer.
