Just saw this on CNN...

Well, it looks like the guy is trying to force his suburban through the checkpoint. If I'm wrong, feel free to berate.

But if that is the case, can you blame the officer? He's just trying to protect himself at that point

"I just back into town and I hear all this stuff, and Buster Olney is making my team up now and [Genske] wants to tell me who is going to pitch here. No one is going to tell us who to put on our team and no one on ESPN is going to tell us who should pitch for my team. " -Gardy

A person is smart, people are dumb. I hate to see this stuff. When tragedy strikes, you get looters, mobs, etc.

"My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious. "

I heard on the TV that some residents were planning to storm the checkpoints to get to their houses. Anybody else here that or know of anything happening?

I believe I see the faint appearance of a 'stach on that guy too. He is definitely auditioning for Cops.

That is just plain stupid. Police are there to protect. Grab photos or anything that cant be replace and then get the heck out. Everything else is just a thing. Safety is a huge issue in these events. You never know who might be lurking in your house when you return to it.

I am sure there the people are under a lot of stress and it would suck to be in their shoes. How is the cop suppose to know the true intentions of the person. It will not help things to get upset and rush a checkpoint though. I dont side with cops often but I am sure in these cases they are looking out for what is best for the people.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

On the outside looking in, it sounds absurd to do that. However, if you put yourself in their shoes and all of your personal belongings were set to be destroyed, wouldn't you feel the same?

I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

A city worker (or maybe it was Alliant or MidAmerican worker) fell through an open manhole either earlier today or yesterday in CR. The water's too muddy to walk safely in it.

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

Can't blame him one bit. It's simply an illustration that things in CR are rather ugly.

At this point, the damage is already done. Another day or two isn't going to impact any material goods. Safety and health issues have to be the priority.

I don't disagree with you. However, it's rather easy for those of us that are high-and-dry to say those things.

They're also saying that they found gas leaks in those areas as well, which is why people aren't allowed back in.

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

Exactly. I was a little shocked when I saw that picture on the front page of cnn.com though.

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

I didn't hear about this. Has a name been made public?
