Man, why did you have to post that house centipede picture. I'll have dreams for sure. I hate those things. I haven't seen any of those yet. I hate spiders too. The milipedes really don't gross me out too much other than I just don't like finding them when I thought this house was really really tight. I sealed everything I could find on this place and it rated as high as possible on the energy star tests that test tightness.

Is this Ortho used inside the home? What about pets and kids?

Re: Millipedes?

In CO, we used to get earwigs:

I always was freaked out by them. They have little pincers on their butts. We also had black widow spiders outside of the house. I bet I killed 10 black widows in the 4 years we were there. I eventually had a company spray for them.

Re: Millipedes?

We have ants this year as well. Two types, little tiny ones and big black ones. I have done some spraying outside and we have the little traps inside. It has helped some but I have to get backoutside and spray again since the rain this weekend. My wife left the sliding door open maybe 1/8 inch and 6-7 cam screaming in last evening. I hate having to deal with all this bug killer crap with curious toddlers bumping about.

I'm also afraid that the wasp nest in front of the house is active again. Luckily the big fuzzy spiders of the last two summers havent shown up yet this year... I hate crawlies...

We had a HUGE ant infestation outside our CO house too. I never saw ants inside but under the concrete around the drive, they had hallowed out a cavern. I think the spray guy called them pavement ants. They were really small but extremely numerous. He put down a spray that killed EVERYTHING. Amazing stuff. He said it was designed for termites but works for ants as well.

We've mostly dealt with flies and moths. Of course, our cat gets to go hunting every evening now...

we have those house centipedes...my wife freaks out, so does my daughter. Pound for pound, those things might be the fastest living creatures on the planet.

Re: Millipedes?

Early one morning I got out of bed to go to the bathroom and found one of those crawling acroos the floor. I hit it with a shoe about 20 times before it stopped moving. The next morning I got up and went to clean up the mess from the carpet and it was gone. They are really fast. I hate those things.

My wife lived in a house in college that had roaches. They used so much Raid she wound up sick and in the emergency room. Unless a bug poses more of a threat than just being disgusting (and very few do), I stay away from chemicals. I prefer physical methods of bug control

Re: Millipedes?

Bugs dont bother me much. Many years at camp I guess. The wife as well doesnt seem to care. We get alot of everything in our basement and spiders galore upstairs. We have several large trees right outside our house that probably boost their numbers. I usually just scoop them up and shove em outside again. The only bug I ever consciously squash are mosquitos. Boxelders are in large numbers this year. Its crazy.

Re: Millipedes?

Ames was the first place I saw house centipedes. Back in 1995 or so, I remember catching one in a Gatorade bottle and taking it to the insectary at ISU and asking if I could speak to someone to tell me what it was. They told me it was a house centipede and that they are usually sparse in the home and harmless. I actually avoid killing them if I can. The legs will continue to quiver (detached from the body) after killing it.

New rule - do not reply to the posts with that picture in it, it really isn't something I like to see

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: Millipedes?

The other morning when I came into work, there were a bunch of girls screaming and running about. A cockroach 2 1/2 -3 inches long was running around in the medical records room. I caught it and was going to take it outside, but they made me keep it so the orkin man could look at it. The guy shows up 3 hours later (meanwhile Im entertaining this thing in my office). He was like "WOW, thats one of the biggest ones Ive seen in town." lol. He doesnt take it with him so I shuffled it outside. Yes, I let it live, he was a big guy who deserved some respect. =)
