Yes, I let it live, he was a big guy who deserved some respect. =) Years ago I worked at GPC (big nasty factory) in Muscatine for a summer job and I'm pretty sure the roaches were feeding on industrial waste and growing to abnormal sizes. They were HUGE and numerous. There were some rooms I would walk into and hear nothing but big nasty crunches.

There are offices in some buildings at Iowa State where they forbid you from turning off the lights to help keep the roaches from coming out - I kid you not.

Release a couple of roaches in hos' house... Wait for the FD to arrive...
"so, burned your house down huh?"
"Yeah, we had roaches... I can't tolerate roaches."
"Oh, those, yeah we let them lose as a gag, sorry about the house..."

I'm also afraid that the wasp nest in front of the house is active again. Luckily the big fuzzy spiders of the last two summers havent shown up yet this year... I hate crawlies... We have a big sandlot in our backyard, maybe 30x60. The previous owners used it as a sand volleyball court, my kids use it as a playground. In the summer, sand wasps take over it. There are literally hundreds of them buzzing about, it sounds like an electrical substation, and my kids are happily running around them. Then the cicada killers show up a couple weeks later. But, hey, they're all harmless to people | | |

Wasps tend to attack if you attack them or swat at the nests. I once stepped barefoot on a dead one and it stung me anyway. =)

We've had a few more spiders than normal this year. Is that Ortho Home defense something you spray around windows and doors? I might give it a try. Last night my wife wouldn't open the window in our bedroom because she saw a spider that somehow found its way through the screen. She is not a happy camper right now. When I see them, I try to kill them and play it off as being something else. But when she sees them, look out.

Sand wasps aren't a physical problem. My kids run around totally oblivious, and the sand wasps stay out of their way. If they tried really hard to catch one, it might attack, but I think it would just fly away. It's just disconcerting to see and hear so many of them buzzing around my kids' play area.

Those house centipedes, although creepy, are some of the most beneficial creatures you can have in your house. They eat roaches, silverfish, spiders, etc. They do bite when threatened, though, and some people can have a severe reaction to their otherwise mild venom.
My son goes to a science magnet school where he gets to play with Madagascar and Death's Head Cockroaches!

I grew up on a farm so I am not bothered by insects at all really, but my 3yr old will have a crap hemorage if a housefly lands on her right now. I was down in my egress window well late last summer and seen these spiders that were about 2" around and hairy that freaked me out for a second. I did some research and I am pretty sure they are wolf spiders and like to eat insects and are basically harmless to us. The wife went ballistic when she seen them and this spring went behind my back and hired an exterminator to come in and spray the house once a month for the summer because I said they were harmless and wouldn't do anything.
Needless to say, I put my foot down and told her to either obey me or else.............The doctor says I should be able to walk again but will most likely always have a limp......... |
Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada? |

I'm dealing with those stupid millepedes as well. Every time we get any lengthy springtime rain I tend to find a few of these throughout the house despite the fact that I've sprayed twice now. Luckily most have been only an inch long. I did run across a big sucker a couple years ago....now that creeped me out. | Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience. |
