My mother-in-law use to work in the basement of Lagomarcino. One summer the cleaning staff decided they didn't need to clean the basement wing she was in, and for months at a time there were cockroaches running around like crazy. She had a good friend from Iran who brought some insecticide back to Iowa after a visit home, and it was the only thing my mother-in-law could get to kill them. It was one of the creepiest things in the world, sitting in her office doing homework while these roaches went running across the floor. YUCK!

One of the more disgusting "bug places" I've ever worked is the Hy-Vee bottle room. It's a disgusting job anyway because 80% of customers don't rinse out their cans/bottles, but what even makes it worse is when half of those store them in the garage. There's no telling what all gets attracted to the skunky beer that's semi-contained within an opened garbage bag | Attempt #2

I did some research and I am pretty sure they are wolf spiders and like to eat insects and are basically harmless to us. The wife went ballistic when she seen them and this spring went behind my back and hired an exterminator to come in and spray the house once a month for the summer because I said they were harmless and wouldn't do anything.
Needless to say, I put my foot down and told her to either obey me or else.............The doctor says I should be able to walk again but will most likely always have a limp.........
Wolf spiders are nasty looking. We get a few of those in our house in the fall when it cools off. We also get them in our pool sometimes, and they look really scary when they're dead and bloated. They mostly keep to themselves, but I wouldn't exactly call them harmless. They can attack when threatened, and I think they're slightly venomous. I don't think they're nearly as dangerous as a bee, though.

my brother works for the national park service on Maui, and spends a lot of time sleeping out doors. He says that the big thing you have to worry about, there are these bright red centipedes that get about 8-12 inches long, and like to crawl into sleeping bags while people are in them. That pretty much cured me of ever going camping in Hawaii.

I always considered myself to not be afraid of most bugs. I think this thread just confirmed I was wrong!
I had a huge wolf spider visit me at work one day. Came up from the back and right on to the top. Totally freaked me out.
Now, if you get a snake anywhere near me, I will have to kill you. Forewarning!

Anything with 6+ legs that moves fast is not welcome in my residence. I don't care how beneficial it is.

There isn't a house in the world that can keep all the bugs out. Start a Toad Colony down your basement. They love crawly thingsd for breakfast.

Yikes, thats not a centipede its a freakin snake with legs.
I agree that regardless of good guy or bad guy, they don't belong in my house. Mutual of Omaha may be just down the street but I don't need to see Wild Kingdom re-enacted in my damn living room. What freaks me out is that if you see one - how many must there be that you dont see? | | |

Totally agree with this. Other than a few "helpful" or "aesthetic" bugs (honey bees or butterflies, etc) all bugs must die. That scene in King Kong still gives me a cold chill. I also do not eat anything that has (or once had) more than 4 legs. Crawdads, crab, lobster, and shrimp are bugs and not fit for human consumption.
