I'm not gonna reply to that "horror homes" picture, just becuase i don't want to look at that again. But, if that was in my house, I would burn it down, no joke. I wouldn't even go back to get my stuff... But, i agree with a lot of you, anything with 6+ legs is not welcome in or around my house, no matter how helpful.

So this morning, I found 3 more live millipedes crawling around and 2 dead ones. They are no bigger than 1 inch. I wish I could find the source. I'm starting to suspect one of our plants. We bought it recently. Millipedes like wet decaying areas. A plant seems like it might be the only option.

The mystery of the millipedes is solved (Hopefully).
I had called Springer Pest Solutions about a week back. The guy came out and said there really isn't anything they can do for millipedes. He said for $80, they can do a 6' boundary around the house that should keep them at bay but that would need to be done monthly. I asked him how they were getting in and he says "oh, they can get in if they want". So I wasn't convinced. I went around my entire house checking for cracks or unsealed areas. Everything looked really tight.
I went back to the idea that perhaps they are already in my house and just come out and night. I had suspected the house plants before but only gave them and initial inspection with no findings. However, this time, I got a stick and started poking into the dirt of each plant. I poked into one plant and just underneath the surface, all the dirt was basically infested with millipedes. The whole plant looked like it was moving. It was quite disgusting. We tossed the whole plant last night. This morning, I have yet to see a stray millipede.

Positive: You solved the millipede problem
Negative: Eww...
Once I solved our bug problem by throwing away a long forgotten box of waffle mix. That was a pretty disgusting find.

I've had house centipedes come in the house in a bag of potatoes and a sack of sweet corn. They like to hitchhike, apparently.

The odd thing is I asked the guy from Springer if it could be something to do with house plants. He said "oh no. They are coming in from the outside". I also asked how there can be so many to randomly wandering into the house. He said they are probably breeding in the house. I told him that the research I had done indicated that millipedes don't reproduce in homes and typically die quickly in homes due to lack of moisture. He says "is that true?" Some expert. Next time, I'll stick with Entomology websites. Iowa state actually has a really good one.

I'm sure he knows a lot about chemicals. Specific species of bugs, not so much.

Someone said they wanted to play Millipede? I'm down. |
And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

Does this thread remind anyone else of the scene in the new King Kong movie where they are in the crevice and the huge ### bugs are coming from everywhere. Gore and blood never freak me out but that DEFINATELY did.

I once saw a big, fat looking spider next to a pond in southern Iowa. I dropped a rock on it and it exploded, releasing hundreds of tiny baby spiders. It hadn't occured to me that it was so fat because it was carrying egg sacks on its back, in fact, I didn't know any kind of spiders did that. Needless to say, THAT was creepy.
