Beer has been shown to be fine as well, and even helpful, in the right amounts.

I turn 30 towards the end of this year and now I'm desperately trying to get the weight off because I know that once the kids come (and they're not that far off) and what little metabolism I actually do have goes by the wayside it's going to be next to impossible for me to get rid of the weight. What also really makes it rough is I'm a slacker by nature. I can find almost any excuse in the world not to work out - I have to psych myself up to actually work out. 75% of the weight you lose is through dieting, not working out. I used to hate to run, but try to get out 4-5 times a week now.
I could hardly even walk a mile before I really started paying close attention to what I ate.
You'd be surprised about how little time you have to eat when kids come. I lost 80 pounds between my daughters first and second birthday. My wife, who is not big in the first place, was 15 pounds lighter before she got pregnant with #2 than she was with #1, through no working out or conscious dieting.

I'm 38 and doing pretty good. I play basketball 2 or 3 times a week and I can still get quite a bit of rim, not bad for 5'11". I had no problem when I turned 30, but 40 kinda freaks me out.
I like to think my mind is still sharp (I started a new, very challenging job less than a year ago), although I had to do a little arithmetic to "remember" what my exact age was when I started this post. That's never a good sign.

I recently turned 27 and I really haven't given a thought to getting older. Every day you wake up you get older. Like Larry Fishburne said in Boyz in the Hood, "I'm not getting older, I'm getting better - you're the one getting older".
Getting older is part of life. I work out 6 days a week unless I get lazy and my back hurts more than I wish it did, but I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm having as much fun as I ever have, even if it's doing things differently than I did in the past.
Age is one of those things that people get bent out of shape about that I just don't get - my parents retired a few years ago and they just got back from Ireland, they go white water rafting, and they travel 90% of the year. They are in their mid-60s.

Instead of a hangover for an hour (or no hangover at all) like it was in college...Mine now seem to linger 1/2-1 full day and I'm only 26.
I echo the comments about the metabolism too. A weeklong food bender = 5 lbs now.

My wife starte planning my 30th birthday bash yesterday (Birthday in September). I don't feel a whole lot different than I did when I graduated college... Maybe it's just Peter Pan syndrome... | |

Mentally, he is still "there" to the point that he can carry on a pretty good conversation, but will repete himself several times.
He said something that stuck with me though, and that was "getting old ain't easy, even after a lot of practice"
I've been thinking about getting old quite a bit, especially as I creep closer to the dreaded 30.
I'm noticing already that some things don't come as easily as they used to, mainly recovery after working out. I hang out at the bar with a group of guys in their mid 40's, and they don't seem so old. A 21-year old woman sounds pretty young to me now, and when I make references to movies that were popular when I was in high school, some guys that I coach haven't even heard of the movie.
My question is how is age treating everyone. I know we have a wide variety of people on this board. Anything you miss being able to do? Being able to get away with? Maybe you love getting older. I don't mind it, but being in that nursing home made me realize we aren't young forever. 27 was bad for me - it was no longer 26, which could round down to 25, which was still halfway between 20 and 30. I turn 30 in about 6 months - not looking forward to it. | BUILD-A-BURGER CHAMP * 12/19/07!!
