Bottled Water

I read an article today that bottled water's popularity may finally be ebbing, due to the state of the economy.

I know there are some legitimate uses for bottled water, but I have long felt this is the biggest scam perpetuated on consumers in a long time, and refuse to buy the stuff. Most bottled water comes from a municipal source...translation: tap water.

The article placed the cost of a day's worth of bottled water anywhere from $4.40 to almost $7.00, where good old tap water costs 14 cents a day.

It is not so much the water itself with me but the fact it is in a bottle and easily portable. I guess I am just addicted to bottles, because if I am out of bottled water for whatever reason I won't drink a glass of it.

I would think places like Starbucks are taking a hit as well. 20-30 bucks a week for coffee is mind boggling.

Bottled water is a scam and paying 99 cts and up for a bottle of water ranks right up there with choosing the hawkeyes to be your favorite team. Most plants use tap water as their source and tap water has shown is some tests to be better then bottled water. Never have drank the stuff except for when that's the only source of water and never will pay $1 / bottle when I can drink all I want out of my tap for pennies a day.

I pay 75 cents everyday before work for coffee and I think that adds up. Everyday I think to myself, why don't I just make it at home and save some money. There is no way I would go to Starbucks everyday for a 4 dollar coffee.

Generally if I find myself purchasing a bottle of water, I don't throw it out right away, I'll continue to fill it up at water fountains the rest of the day. I've got some bottles of water sitting at home, but thats more of an emergency supply of water. I drink large quantities of water through out the day... all from the tap when possible.

I think it's stupid to drink exculsively bottled water - I never understood that. Thats horrible from both a financial and environmental stand point... gah stupid people

Though I guess I can't talk much... I tend to drink 2-3 cans of Dr. Pepper a day

still... thats all of 25 cents / can (aka less than a bottle of Evion), I pull the tabs off for charity and recycle the cans

Half of bottled water may be of lesser quality than good tap water. However, for those people along the Mississippi bootled water is good this week.

I used to drink bottled water a lot just because I could keep it in the fridge and have it cold. I went out and bought a Brita pitcher with a filter on it and absolutely love that thing. I never buy bottled water anymore

I love bottled water as I sell it in vending machines and can hardly keep it in stock. I haven't noticed a decrease in sales.... especially at 570% markup.

That's the only positive for bottled water is if you are the seller. A lot of suckers(I mean customers) out there to line your pockets.

And I agree that the flooding brings about another use for bottled water, but only in a short term situation......hopefully.

I don't drink bottled water because of the resources needed to make the plastics and the waste involved.

This is the best option for water drinkers now that Naglene has been found to be toxic:

Agree...Maybe the BIGGEST scam in history. The US has some of the best tap water in the entire world and we then pay to have what is often that very same tap water bottled up and sold to us for $2.00. And that doesn't even begin to touch how much plastic is used, and how much fuel it costs to transport water...which is VERY heavy.

I won't buy bottled water unless that is my only option to rehydrate such as at a sporting event or if I need to throw some in the cooler which means I usually get the cheapest stuff I can at the store. At home it's all out of the tap. Never understood why people buy it to drink at home. If you are that picky about your water buying a filtration system would be much more cost effective not to mention "green" as well considering most people just throw away their plastic bottles.

The only reason I buy bottled water is for the portability. I also refill about 95% of my bottles multiple times. I suppose I could go to a nalgene like thing, but I keep water in so many places I'd need a half dozen of the things.

I do agree that bottled water is a ripoff and one of the greatest scams in history. At the CWS a bottle of water was $4. "Hand-Squeezed" Lemonade was $3.50. Kind of crazy that the bottle of water was the same price as a gallon of gas.
