What are the best music download sites?

Amazon.com, not everything on Itunes is DRM free.

If you have CD-RWs and a couple of extra minutes you can get around this little "problem"

Unless its been changed you also will lose all your mp3 tags when you burn a bunch of random music to a CD

I'm pretty sure if the CD contains a single complete album iTunes is able to recover the tags

The cd solution is time consuming and also results in a loss of audio quality as you convert from aac to wav (cd audio) and back to mp3. Amazon doesn't have as pretty of a store, but their albums are cheaper.

If you're into indie music, Emusic can't be beat.

DRM free and cheap.

A word of caution, a friends daughter was using Ares to downloand illegal music. She got a note from the Feds stating she would need to pay $6000 for the 75 songs she had downloaded.

Her father, a lawyer, contacted a friend to fight the case. He was told to pay the $6000 and be happy it wasn't more and that there was no way to fight and win.

Since then I have stopped using Ares.

Not if you first burn your iTunes music as an audio CD and then re-rip them as MP3s.

And I created an entire "Guitar Hero" album in that fashion - it doesn't sound any worse than the original iTunes files.

They really want her to pay $80 per song? That's the real crime.

I have iTunes cause I use my iPhone as my iPod too. I saw zune has $14.95 a month for unlimited music that seems like a great deal

Thanks guys - will check out itunes and zune for sure. Wasn't real impressed with emusic's catalog but there WAS lots of new music I'd not heard before.
