Wow, I love fight songs, and I love college sports... but I will be dead before I ever hear a fight song at my wedding reception. It just sounds like a tacky thing to do.

I'm fairly new to Iowa, only been here for about 2 1/2 years now, but even in South Dakota almost every wedding reception had the Iowa Fight Song. Heck people even got up in a big circle and danced to it. There's specific moves - you do some things with your hands that look like Herky's beak, then you flap your arms like Herky's wings, then you shake your butt. The DJ says stuff like go clockwise, go counterclockwise, etc.

Unsolicited advice for singles. Songs to avoid at your wedding reception: - Any fight song
- Chicken dance
- Hokey pokey
- Explicit songs (e.g. Nine Inch Nails, ...Like an Animal)
- Anything by Celine Dion
Those of us in attendance thank you.

At the last wedding I was at the wedding party was introduced with the fight song playing. That alone is tacky, but add the fact that neither the bride or groom attended eiu made it really tacky.

Wow some of you guys make no sense...
Sorry, but I am getting married next weekend. I am playing the damn fight song at the reception.
I'm also playing Twilight Zone to introduce the wedding party with the fight song when me and the bride coming in.
I love ISU athletics. I pay for my tickets each year, went to college there. I'm not afraid of playing the fight song.
Also, its not that tacky.... Are you saying the Chicken Dance, Macarana, and some wierd polka song is classy.... I guarentee you will hear those songs at 99% of weddings. Those are way more tacky then ISU fight song.
Also, what wedding isn't a little tacky in some way. It's your big day, you help pay for it, you might as well do what you want.

It is fun to go to the Piano Bar in New York New in Vegas. Those guys know about every fight song possible.
( suggest ISU fans go there for the UNLV game )

Those of us in attendance thank you. I'm really at a loss for words here, because I'm sure I hit all bases.
1. Cy came to my reception and was introduced by the fight song (Not organized by my wife or I)
2. You know it.
3. Did it.
4. Uncut version of "Get Low" played. Skeet Skeet.
5. Danced to it later in the night.
Apparently my wedding was white trash central.

Those of us in attendance thank you. I would avoid 1 and 4... You do 2 and 3 for the kids and old people... That's just fun...

I've been to at least one wedding where the ISU fight song was played. I sang along and enjoyed it. It was also my favorite song to sing as a camp counselor.

Didn't have a reception at our wedding. I wanted to dance and boogy but but didn't want a bunch of friends and family around while we busted a few new moves of our own......... |
Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada? |

I figured playing it will be a fun way to pick on my wedding party...
My wedding party consist of
1 K-state Wildcat
1 Cornhusker
2 Hawkeyes
2 Cyclones
Women are
1 UNI
4 Hawkeyes
1 Cyclone
Everyone knows that I'm a huge fan... And everyone knows I'll be playing it so its funny...
It's not tacky to show alittle pride once and a while...
Also, if you don't like it... Don't listen to it... (Sorry making fun of people on message boards that use that line)

Apparently my wedding was white trash central. Right on BryceC...my wife and I came into the reception to the fight song, hit up 2 and 3, and late in the night had kareoke and ended up having a couple of wasted people sing the "Old School version" of Total Eclipse of the Heart. Don't remember any Celine Dion, but the DJ played nothing but freaking Kenny G through supper instead of any songs from the dinner playlist I submitted.

What I can't figure out is what are you guys doing at weddings of Iowa fans? Don't you have anything better to do, like mow the yard?

Wow- we got some fun haters in the house.
Who cares what someone does or doesn't do at their wedding reception?? It's their reception, they should be able to personalize it however they want. The weddings I've been to with Cy, fight song, corny dances--everyone seemed to be having a blast.
